Unfortunately, for the time being - and it has been like this ever since the Hero4 Black - to get a LINEAR view in 4K you have to do a lens correction aka dewarp in the video editor package. GoPro does this on ALL of their their own footage.

It's not all that difficult as Abe makes it seem. In most editors, Including Adobe Premiere Pro, there are built in distortion effects. It's actually as easy as drag and drop. You pull up the effect (free, you don't have to spend a dime on it) by typing GoPro in the effects panel. Then choose the distortion effect you want. While there is a 4K wide option, I actually like to use the 1440 and make any changes necessary with the easy to use slider.
