Hero 7 Black Time Lapse Photo Screen Turning OFF!

This was quite frustrating. I set out to take a photogrametric underwater survey with my new Hero 7 Black. Because of the nature of photogrammetry, I need to take a photo about every second with a smooth swim pattern and knew the Time Lapse function would be perfect for the job.

Unfortunately, in the photo time lapse mode it keeps turning the screen off while it is capturing. This make it completely usless, as it's impossible to setup the frame you need. I have friends that have older Hero 3 and Hero 4 models and this isn't a problem they ever faced. So having paid 8x as much for the Hero 7 Black, I was very dissappointed. Is there a way to fix this or is this a firmware issue that is currently being addressed and updated? I tried disabling the screen saver and auto off mode, updated it to the newest software and even reset it to factory seetings

I'd hate to have to take this camera back on such a fixable issue, but if I can't even see my work, it wouldn't be a very good camera.

Re: Hero 7 Black Time Lapse Photo Screen Turning OFF!

Hi @stoutcliff07013,

I tested this out on a few GoPro cameras (HERO4 Silver, HERO6 Black and HERO7 Black). The touch display screen will eventually go black or blank when recording using Photo Timelapse mode. I suggest that you can utilize the Video Timelapse mode or Video Mode and use the "Grab Photo" function on GoPro App (mobile) or Quik for Desktop (computer) if you need to take a single photo from the video.

Kind Regards,

Unfortunately that doesn't really help. The shutter would never close between frames in video mode and the definition between each photo would be compromised, especially underwater. A model just couldn't reliably be created from video.

Besides the point though, as what you suggest would have me spending hours manually selecting each frame one at a time, and exporting them as a photos.

I just don't really see why this feature would be automatic and irraversable. It just needs an, "LCD Display" setting (like in the older models of Hero GoPro). I get battery conservation and everything, but that shouldn't remove this feature completely. Even if it would eventually goes black, I could still work with it. But no screen at all means I never get a chance to use it in the first place.

It would be like buying a phone with no headphone jack or bluetooth and then saying the solution is to use the speakers everywhere you go. I really need control on this function to work as it was intended. Visually it's a pretty good camera, but I can't use it as it is now.

Thank you for the feedback, @stoutcliff07013. The feature you describe is something that is not present with the current camera model. We will provide this feedback to the team in charge for consideration on future improvements. Best regards!
