Hero 7/8 23.98 fps support, manual shutter, WB, ISO, recording limit

Hello there,

I have a few questions regarding Hero 7 and 8 and would really appricate finding answers for:

1) Do these GoPros support 23.98fps? (I see 24 fps)

2) What are the shutter speed specifications per recording resolutions on Hero 7 or 8 and can these be manually set?

3) Is there a manual White Balance , ISO, and focus options at all resolutions? Please expand if not.

4) Are Hero 7 and 8 guaranteed to work well for long periods of time (a span of a day)?

5) What are the expected life of one fully charged GoPro 7 or 8 during recording at 4K?

6) Is there a maximum on the capacity of the SD card to be recorded onto?

7) Is there a restriction upon the duration of a recording?

Thank you so kindly for any input!

Re: Hero 7/8 23.98 fps support, manual shutter, WB, ISO, recording limit

Hi @tr71,

(1) Only 24 FPS is available. See HERO8 Black - Video Settings and ResolutionsVideo Resolutions for HERO7 Cameras for reference.

(2) Shutter Speed can be set manually through the Protune settings in the camera. See How to Use the Shutter Setting in Photo ModeHow to Use Night Photo & Night LapseHERO8 Black - Night Lapse Video for details.

(3) WB and ISO limits are available through the Protune settings in the camera. See Advanced Protune Controls Explained for more details.

(4) You can use the USB-C cable that came with your camera to shoot videos and photos while your camera is plugged into a USB-charging adapter, the GoPro Supercharger, another GoPro charger, or the GoPro Portable Power Pack. This is perfect for capturing long videos and time-lapse events. Even though your camera is plugged in, the battery will not charge during recording. It will start charging when you stop recording. You cannot record while charging with a computer. Heads Up: Because the door is open, your camera is not waterproof when charging.

(5) The camera's maximum battery capacity will vary based on settings, environmental conditions, and other factors. You may check this article that lists down the estimated runtime (in minutes) of the GoPro cameras: https://community.gopro.com/t5/en/GoPro-Camera-Battery-Life/ta-p/394294

(6) Check this article to see our list of the most up-to-date GoPro recommended microSD cards.

(7) The recording duration will depend on battery life and SD card capacity. However, when taking a video recording, the camera will automatically segment into a new file chapter once it has reached a certain size. See GoPro Camera File Chaptering Information for more details.

Hopefully, this helps.
