Hero 6Black Stabilization Issue bouncing frame

[ New ]

Hi There,

My GoPro has serious issues as seen in 0:10 and 1:15.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKSA1fGs6hM&feature=youtu.be

The frame is bouncing heavily when encountering complex geometric shapes and or narrow streets with lots of movement. Almost EVERY video that I made has certain parts with high bounciness making the video unuseable.

Pls Help.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Hello @hylker28671

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We would like to get more details so we have an idea on how to go with the next steps. Do you recall what resolution settings were used when you did the recordings? Was the camera on HyperSmooth Stabilization? If you have not done it yet, try manually updating your camera and resetting it to factory defaults. You can find manual update instructions below:

  1. Go to the Update page and choose your HERO7 camera.
  2. Under "Other ways to update" at the base of the page, click "Update your camera manually."
  3. Enter your Serial Number and other requested information, click Next Step.
  4. Click "Download Update."
  5. Click "Click here to download firmware."
  6. Follow the steps on the screen for detailed instructions for your operating system.

Make sure that your camera is fully charged and that the SD card is a recommended one, and is formatted prior to updating. After the update, please capture sample videos and let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Marius

What is the stabilisation problem you're on about?

What I saw in the video is the rise and fall of the camera due to the natural walking gait.

As we step forward we put our weight on the front foot, it's ankle acts as a pivot and (with our leg straight) our hip transcribes an arc that is highest in the middle when the leg is straight up and down and lowest at the ends when our leg is at an angle.

This forces our body into moving up and down and this takes along for the ride anything that we are carrying.  This isn't the type of motion that EIS or even gimbals can smooth out but is down to your technique.

You can practice walking heel to toe keeping your knees slightly bent at all times (check YouTube - theres a few videos on this) - you may look like a refugee from a Monty Python sketch but it will help out the video.  Mounting the camera on a selfie stick and holding it in a relatively relaxed grip with the stick at 45 degrees might also help as the inertia on the gopro and the semi relaxed muscles in your hand can act a bit like a shock absorber.

Forgot to say that this footage is shot with GoPro karma grip stabilizer!

The problem is the shakyness (rapid left-right and random movement) of the frames between 0:04 and 0:40. The 'rise and fall'  is due to walking yes. But the shakyness in said footage is due to the stabilization software INSIDE the camera. Watch when the shakyness dissapears @ 0:40 when encountering more light, openess and plain view which is more easy for the stabilization software to process.

Notice that, when in darker or low light environments with closeby and or complex objects (plants, people) the stabilization software loses it. Same situation @ 1:15, low light and closeby people disrupt the stabilization software.

I've manually installed the latest updates.

I've checked whether my Karma Grip malfunctions with a good working GoPro.

Need more support on this issue.

Hi I have a Hero6 Black. Not a 7. And completed the suggestions.

It did not work. See my other comment.

Tothe best of my knowledge gyroscopes don't need light to operate.  They sense the force applied to them from rotational forces.  Accelerometers don't need light either,  they measure the forces applied from accelleration.  As the EIS uses gyros and accelerometers they don't use light to work and as far as the EIS cares it could be totally pitch black.  I've not read anything from Gopro that says that the EIS of any of their cameras processes the image  and if you have links to any I'd appreciate them as I'd like to have a read.

What were the setting on the camera - frame rate, shutter speed, iso, auto low light?

I can't see the rapid side to side shakiness that you're on about, sorry.   Have you tried it with the karma grip but with EIS turned off - is there a chance that they are interfering with each other?

Karma Grip automatically turns off EIS in the HERO6 Black.

Re: Hero 6Black Stabilization Issue bouncing frame

Keep in mind that I'm walking with GoPro Karma Grip and internal software GoPro 5 stabilization. The internal software stabilization causes the issue, which is a notorious problem in low light conditions.

The following footage shows even shakyness while standing still. Obviously, the more motion there is the more complex the frames will become for the internal stabilization software to stitch it all toghether.

As said, this has nothing to do with the walking motion ' up and down'.  It has everything to do which the option of STABILIZATION MODE [ON] @ GoPro Hero 5 Black causing terrible shakiness and bounciness.

I've walked the exact path as seen in the video twice. One with stabilization = ON and one with stabilization = OFF.

It does not cause the same shakyness with stabilization OFF. Therefore I was able to narrow the cause of the problem to this specific function.

"It does not cause the same shakyness with stabilization OFF. "
