Hero 6 firmware v1.6 - Is the Protune Sharpness correct?

Hey guys, I updated to v1.6 recently and decided to run a test to see which is the best Sharpness setting to use, Low, Medium or High?

The results are so minimal, one user on the channel said that his Hero 5 when swtiching to High sharpness was so sharpened...is this probably Firmware v1.6 related??

Here's a link to the video/test:

The GoPro Hero 6 (Hero5 and Hero 4) allow you to use Protune. One of the most avoided settings is Sharpness, the usual is just to go with medium...but is that the best? I took the Hero 6 and filmed 2 different scenes in Low Medium and High in all 3 settings to see which one was the best. The only

hi,

2.7K 25fps

pt -off

pt-on high

pt-on medium

pt-on low

I saved an image from each.

than I cropped to have almost the same size, and made a GIF

to me the differences are obvious

try to "read" the GIF animation:

high - high - medium - low

clear-clear - unclear  - noclear

look also at the numbers on Cisco phone dial...

hero5:

hero6

just me,

Thanks for the reply, is your Hero 6 running the new software 1.6?

hi,

yes v01.60

now... when you look at the footage, maybe is not as obvious.

in v01.51, in low light, I always used sharp=low, just to get rid of that colour noise in dark areas (shadows).

now I'm using high without problems.

I think GoPro needs to look at these settings and correct them then, as they are potentially too close together and you get no major variation for post production.

Is it just me or from what I see from what you guys posted, the hero 5 is more sharp than the hero 6 ? The image quality seem much better on the hero 5. I also saw a video about this:

Do you think the hero 6 sharpness can be / will be fixed in a future firmware update ? If yes, then I hope it's sooner than later.

hi @samueld6408....

the video was posted in Nov 5

the new firmware release date is Nov 20

so this comparison was made on the old firmware.

thank you!
