Hero 6 - do I need extra lens protection for mountainbiking?

Good afternoon,

I got the Hero 6 and I'd like to ask whether square the lens cover that comes on it is meant to be out on the bike trails or if I need to buy extra protection before my first adventure. I'm a complete newbie and this is my first actioncamera, so essentially what I'm wondering about the lens cover is (1) is it supposed to handle dirt and small rocks, (2) is it easily replaceable when it gets scratched up (because sooner or later, it will eat a rock), and if not, what kind of protection do I need to get? I've been trying to read up a bit on this in particular, but all my findings are inconclusive.

Thank you in advance,

Tom

I "think" the lens cover is Gorrilla Glass 4, so it should be ok for what you're doing, and it's pretty easy to replace. There are

a few videos on YouTube that will show you the procedure to remove it.

1. Dirt and small rocks shouldn't be a problem at all. I've seen airsoft BB's bounce off lens covers. A dead-on shot at high velicity will crack the lens cover, but even then it should protect the actual lens from damage.

2. The lens cover is easily replaced. Like already mentioned... YouTube videos show just how easy. Buy a spare from GoPro if you are concerned: https://shop.gopro.com/accessories-2/protective-lens-replacement-hero6-blackhero5-black/AACOV-001.ht...

gopro created the outer glass lens protector, it is removable you do not want to remove it for any video, the less in front of the glass the better. you may opt to place your cam in a super suit if like. or get a lens film but over time in constant droning you will want to toss and replace,   sand and micro debrea you'll never see in wind that is wnat starts chipping away at glass over time

ride it like you stole it and worry bout it when the time comes that will be on a fall or over a long period. go enjoy your camera

Thanks guys, I've been out a couple of times and it indeed holds up well against everything and the protective glass wipes clean nicely with bicycle gloves.
