Hero 5 black not powering on

I've had the hero 5 black for almost a month now. From day one I've had problems. Every time I would try to record video after 15 seconds it would stop recording and say SD card error. After I tried different recommended cards and formatting them on the computer as well as on the camera still no luck. I also had problems updating my camera both way as well. To make things worse now it will not power on or do anything. Now I am shipping the camera to gopro for a replacement which sucks because my new one probably won't make it back in time for my ski trip. Just wondering if anything like this has happened to anyone else.

Sorry to hear you are having some issues with your HERO5. Please try the following steps to see if you can get that resolved!

  1. Disconnect the camera from any external power source and remove SD card. Remove and reinsert battery.
  2. Press the Mode Button to see if the camera responds (look for LED illumination, beeps, or a response from the camera’s screens).
  3. If there's no response, attempt to reset camera by pressing and holding the Mode Button for 8-10 seconds. After releasing the button, leave the camera alone for ≈5 seconds and attempt to get a response from the camera by pressing the Mode Button.
  4. If still unable to get any sign of life from camera, connect to a 5V 2A wall charger (5V 1A minimum) using the GoPro USB Type-C cable, look for red LED illumination to indicate charging. NOTE: In a pinch, you can use a computer USB port, but we do not recommend using a multi-port USB hub when trying to charge the camera.
    1. If the red illumination LED does not appear, try using a secondary USB Type-C cable. 
  5. If/when red LEDs illuminate, allow camera to remain charging for a few minutes.
  6. Remove the camera from charging source and attempt to get a response from the camera by pressing the Mode Button.
  7. If provided with a response, allow camera to turn back off, insert the SD card and wait ≈5 seconds, then attempt to record a sample video.

If you are still unable to power on your HERO5 Black, please contact GoPro Customer Support to see if they can get that sorted out.

Hello i had the same problem yesterday.

 

I just got my GoPro yesterday and tried to work with..i had all the time SD card error message in red..then i tried to update the gopro on their webpage with their software on the mac, after the update the gopro turned off and never on again..and this with a fresh new gopro hero 5 out of the box, i was 1.5h with the support team on chat to try to fix the issue, they where kind and helpfull but unfortunately the cam was not able to go on again...so they offered me 2 options or to send it back to the shop i purchaised it or send it back to them after warranty and serial check ec.... :/ it was my b-day present for the 16.11 and also my new cam to record my upcomming events...im so sad now and need to send back the cam to the online shop where i ordered my gopro hoping for a replacement.. :(

 

Some more people faced the same problem?

Gopro customer support used to be great, recently they seem to have forgotten how to look after the customer im not getting any responces from them.
