Hero 5 Session's Wifi no longer connectable nor appearing in any devices (2018.09)

This happened in the middle of a shoot.

 

iPhone does not see the gopro in wifi list

 

Attempts to remedy involve:

  • resetting Wifi settings on gopro
  • removing gopro from iPhone's bluetooth list
  • reconnecting attempt with bluetooth off
  • reconnecting with phone not connected to any wifi
  • reconnecting with phone not connected to any bluetooth devices
  • phone restart
  • phone hard restart
  • deleting and redownloading Gopro iOS app and reattempting the above
  • gopro factory reset (lost camera hardware settings only accessible from the app)
  • manual firmware update (despite being already up to date)
  • USB connection to Quik on Desktop (no settings there)
  • Reset Network Settings in iPhone

App keeps mentioning "No Gropro Detected" while camera shows the connection ID and password in paring mode.

 

We're down one camera because we can't use the live view (and now also because we can't turn off the front facing red LED.)

 

Please advise.

Sorry to hear about the interrupted shoot. It seems that you have already gone through recommended steps based on the list. Have you tried connecting while your phone was in airplane mode? If you have not done it yet, have a go at the following steps: 

  1. If you still can't get connected, close the GoPro App, forget the Wi-Fi network in your device's wireless network settings, and turn on Airplane Mode on your device.  
  2. Turn off any Firewall apps.
  3. Try reconnecting to the Wi-Fi network and launch the GoPro App.  
  4. If you're unable to connect to your camera, then this means that your device's APN settings are preventing the GoPro App from working on your device.  Apps that affect data compression/transfer and your device's APN settings conflict with the GoPro App. Uninstall those APN/data compression apps to restore your APN settings to default, then the GoPro App should work with or without Airplane Mode enabled.

Hi Marius, thanks for the reply

Airplane mode (app requested bluetooth to be turned on) seems to be doing the same. It's also not appearing the the bluetooth devices list.

I'm not using any firewall or VPNs or mobile data compression apps on my phone. Went ahead and reset my carrier's APN settings anyway, to no avail.
