Hero 5 Session Too Hot

I picked up a new H5 Session a little under 2 weeks ago, this is my first go pro but ive used family members before, i just think there is something definitely wrong with this one.

The thing bothering me most right now is the amount of heat this thing is kicking off, i understand that these cameras should be getting warm just due to the size and the amount of stuff packed into it, but seriously after 5 mins of filming at 4k the aluminum bezel is too hot to touch, my thermal cam is showing it over 120f after 10 mins of filming, this kinda heat will inevitably kill electronics.

I have already opened a support ticket but i can't find too many posts with this issue on here, more about the ghost battery drain which i have yet to see, im on the newest firmware, i just did a filming test at 4k and i got around 67 mins with wifi turned off halfway through, if they advertise 75 mins then i guess thats not too bad, but still this heat is not acceptable, you physically can't keep your hand on the camera with it this hot.

Is anyone else here having this issue?

Re: Hero 5 Session Too Hot

The camera is designed to turn itself off if it gets too hot.  You're SD card is not recommended and is on the slower side when it comes to write speed.  Samsung doesn't make an Evo 128GB with the write speed of 80MB/s. http://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/memory-cards/s/_/n-10+11+hv22y+zq29p/  SD cards have a lot to do with the overall performance of GoPro cameras.  If you can, you might want to try a faster card like the Samsung Pro. I pretty much only use Samsung Pro/Pro+ or Lexar 1000 and while my cameras get warm, they are never "hot".

Re: Hero 5 Session Too Hot

i think you may be right, 80mb/s is the read speed then?

so basically the retard at best buy sold me 2 of the wrong cards, wow

these cards were hanging inside the gopro section directly beside the cameras as well.

will pickup a new card tomorrow and report back, thanks

Re: Hero 5 Session Too Hot

Yeah, sorry.  Best Buy employees are the worst.  Don't let them try to sell you a SanDisk Ultra.  They are notorious for it and it's a terrible card for GoPro cameras.  Unless you really need all of that space, 32GB is usually enough.  The battery generally dies long before the SD card is full.  I do use 64GB cards but mostly just to have space for timelaps and even then I use a powerbank to supply the additional power needed for the camera. It's best practice to offload your data to your computer after shooting and periodically reformat your SD card.  128GB is great for a phone but not really very useful in a GoPro camera.
