ok you call the pro 3.5mm Mic adapter just promic - I read your message again and it made more sense.
if I plug in the promic and hit record it does record audio through the gopro interal mic on the camera.
as soon as I plug in the mic itself - nothing.
I think what you are saying that is that it does appear to be the promic that is at fault

A general set up will be this LIke you said. Plug Mic to adapter, adapter to camera. turn mode on, and record.
You said you are using a 4 pin Mic Kit Either the 4 pin to 3 pin cable or Mic adapter is the issue.
I tested using a earpeice, so it can be like said faulty adapter.

Not sure why a 4 pin to 3 pin cable stop the mic from working,
For me I would hack the mic and head set. but I rather have a professional cable working.
glad we eleminated it to be the cable and not the gopro mic adapter?

I already ordered a replacement for the audio adapter
(promic). I think it may be the adapter. Negotiating now with what to do with the purple panda people - customer service with them is highly rated

hope all will work out in the end. it can be something very simple that complicated the whole thing here. keep the site posted when you get it resolved.
remember you can always chat with gopro and work it out, they'll either chime in later to tel lyou that.

I found the solution - I replaced the promic with a new one and that fixed it. I have seen that your use of headphones being plugged into the promic was a good test to try but I kept getting it to work sometimes and not always. It was, for me, a defective promic.
Promic = GoPro Microphone Adapter
