I'm trying to add an old Hero 5 Black to my account, but it indicates that my serial number is invalid. I tried going to the update page in support, but when I enter it there it reads "Oops. Looks like you entered the serial number from a different GoPro."
I've double- and triple-checked that the number is correct. It begins with a C332. Any ideas?

The body is definitely a HERO5 - the firmware I'm not so sure.
To clarify, the serial number in the preferences pane starts with a C332. (Sadly, another problem has arisen; the battery is jammed in the compartment, so I can't check whether the body's number is the same. I'm taking it for repairs later this week.)

Ironically, the problem's not actually that the tab is broken. It's intact, but it's as if the battery was too big for the slot, so it's just kind of jammed in there. I couldn't even pull it out with pliers. Which is a problem, as the serial number is printed in the battery compartment.
But I know with certainty the body itself is a 5 - it shoots 4k30p flawlessly just like my old (functional) HERO5, has the "HERO5" label on the side - it's functionally identical. But from what I know, a HERO5's SN should start with C31? Is there any reason for the battery compartment's number to be different from the one in preferences?

@alexblight, serial numbers starting with "C332" are associated to HERO (2018) camera -- the most latest firmware version is v01.00, while HERO5 Black has v02.60. Where did you purchase the camera? If it wasn't from gopro.com or any authorized retailer, I concur to what @danielr15 said about the firmware.

I got it from a friend, so I can't really confirm where exactly it came from.
Again, though, the confusing part to me is that every other aspect of the camera is identical to my other HERO5, which I bought new, straight from a physical retailer. I found both a printed manual and pdf manual and scoured them for any differences, I compared it to my other one see if there was something I was missing, I went through the menus one by one to try to find any differences...
Nothing. The entire body is both physically and aesthetically identical to the H5 (even down to the "HERO5" label on the right, I'll insert a picture). The firmware is identical, as there's nothing it should be able to do that it can't. The footage is identical, same resolution, same picture, same everything - looks great on my 4k monitor, and I know enough to tell when HD footage has been upscaled. It definitely hasn't, so the sensor (and I'd imagine the processor) is the same as well. Everything functions exactly as it should, and the version is correct as well (v02.60).
I mean it literally when I say the only single thing distinguishing this camera from my fresh-out-the-box HERO5 is the serial number.
I'm sorry if I'm not being helpful, but I'm probably just as confused as y'all are. Am I just missing something really obvious?
