@trevorm1253

 I thought I show ya. I have the same issue. so you know it's not you?   Try Plugging the promic in firtst, then  turn on and hit record?  Also gopro knows about hte Quikcapture but   quikcapture will work  at given time. I showed this before maybe I will again.

let me know if that helped  no pun was intended to anyone here to help.

Thank you for your reply. Much appritiated.
Thanks to you I think I figured it out.
To share with others experiencing this problem here what I do. It's annoying and it sucks but it seams to work now.

Plug in Mic adaptor > power on GoPro side button > plug in mic > record

1. With gopro off, plug in the mic adaptor (no mic)
2. Turn on GoPro with the side button only
3. Plug in mic into mic adaptor
4. Hit top button to start/stop recording

If turn off go pro must unplug mic and repeat process

This works for me.
Fishy comics thank you for your help.

To GoPro
Having an adaptor that's 1/3 the size of the camera has a short and stiff Cord and no way to mount it for sports is rediculous. New design needed ASAP. Also having to do it in this order so many stupid unessessary steps and not just fast start recording is stupid. Bad design flaw. I'm disapointed. You should design a exernal mic that just works. And no adaptor needed. And one touch recording. Figure it out ASAP guys.

Re: Hero 5 Black - External Mic Issue with Hero 5 black

What a royal PITA THAT is.  Yes, it fixed the maddening problem I've had with the external mic on my Hero 5. But GOPRO FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!!   Having to disconnect the mic everytime I power off is guaranteed to cause me to shoot a video with no mic often. This work around does indeed work but the instant shoot still isn't fixed.  As he said, have the adapter plugged in but the external mic disconnected EVERY time you power on the camera, then plug the mic in (if you remember it) and you'll have audio, but if you forget to unplug the mic or forget to plug it back in you'll have no audio.
