Hero 4 Silver Wifi connecting to app problems on Galaxy S7

Hi guys, here's what I've tried.

* wifi reset

* camera reset

When I try to connect the app on my Galaxy S7 to my Hero4 Silver, I get the same issue. I turn wifi on, click app and it starts to pair on the camera giving me a pair code.

On the app, it says password is incorrect and to enter it. I type in "goprohero" and it tells me "Your camera name must be at least 1 character. Your camera password cannot be "goproheo" can contain letters, numbers, or only these special characters _-

All the while the camera is trying to pair and says enter pin into gopro app.

I try "goprohero1" and says camera password is incorrect.

What to do now?!?!?

Re: Hero 4 Silver Wifi connecting to app problems on Galaxy S7

Hi there, I had the exact same issue with my own Galaxy S7 running Oreo and my GoPro Hero 4 Black.  Even after resetting the WiFi settings on the camera and trying to pair my camera in the app again, I would get the same "Password incorrect" issue.  Here's what I found worked.

On your Galaxy S7, pull down the quick access menu on the Phone (swipe from the top down).  Then long hold the WiFi icon to open up the WiFi Setting.  It should display a list of WiFi connections in there, this may or may not include your GoPro camera.  If the GoPro camera is listed there, long press the connection and it will bring up the details.  From there you want to select "forget".

Once the connection is removed, click on the "Advanced" tab in the WiFi connections.  From there, scroll down to and select "manage networks".  This will bring up a complete list of all the network connections you have ever made.  If you see your GoPro listed in there, you will want to select it by pressing on it and once again select "forget" from the box that pops up.

You may have multiple instances of the camera listed in there and you'll want to remove them all.

Once this has been done, turn on your GoPro Hero and go to the settings menu on the camera itself.  You'll want to scroll down to "reset" and then select "reset WiFi".

Once this has been done you can then pair your camera with the app again.

Re: Hero 4 Silver Wifi connecting to app problems on Galaxy S7

Hi @spiryboost26331

If a Wi-Fi reset has been done successfully, a Bluetooth PIN should be given by the camera.

This should then allow pairing with your phone.

The next step is to setup the Wi-Fi name and password.

Try running a manual update on your camera. https://gopro.com/update/hero4

I have worked with several customer with the same issue and re-flashing the software sorted it out.

In addition to this, make sure that you have the latest version of the GoPro app.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks!

Ej

Re: Hero 4 Silver Wifi connecting to app problems on Galaxy S7

Thanks @aragon1006. I tried the manual update with a clean, formatted SD card. Successful. Tried to connect, same issue. The camera gives me the 4 digit pin, the phone app asks for the wifi password. I put in the goprohero password and still doesn't work.

Tried to reset wifi again, same problem.

This next time, i uninstall, then reinstall the app, same issue.

The app never asks for the 4 digit pin that shows on the camera.

Not sure what to do next! Please help!!!

Re: Hero 4 Silver Wifi connecting to app problems on Galaxy S7

Yes! @irishmanpdx that worked!

Going into the wifi settings of my phone and deleting any GoPro or gp###### connection was the way to go. I thought everything got deleted and reset when I had to do a hard reset on my phone and it wiped out the wifi connections but I guess not those ones.

I'm all set now!
