Have to say my experience thus far sucks Royally of buying a Go PRO HERO5 Black

First the box it comes in is like solving a bloody rubiks cube to get the **bleep** out.

 

Next the destructions that come with it don't tell you to pinch the sides to slide it out it just shows a picture of lifting the flap.

 

Then you try to get your GO PRO out of the **bleep** case so you can charge the battery. So its off to youtube only to find some RETARD has hidden the instructions in a secret compartment under the false floor in your GO PRO Box.

 

Hour or so later YAWN.

Trying to read the instructions or the Go PRO screen with out a magnifying glass is redonkulous.

 

Sure it may have cool features and video production but its hardly the only player. We have another camera that doesn't have GPS it is way better , same quality and 10 times easy to use and helf the price.

 

I bought a remote control only to find out the same retarded boxing problem. I think its because they are trying to be trendy like Apple. Its just a big FAIL.

 

Having said that the picture seems fine and jerks every once and a while, probably while loading but still good. Sound quality seems good.

 

Pairing Remote was fun.

Pairing iPhone that needs WIFI and Blue tooth a nightmare and bloody hilarious.

 

 

Software sucks. Died for no reason on PC. Ridiculous , I am downloading it now as I write this again just to reinstall.

 

Well thats my rant. Very dissapointed given the price point with my experience given I could have bought two others if I don't need GPS. Bought the remote from JBHIFI and can get it like 60 bucks less on ebay. Got the Dual battery charger and it only comes with USB to charge it LMAO. Got the Super charger and the Super charger has a mini USB C (God knows why) and only one USB C. Of course the GO PRO Cable mini USB C to mini USB C dies in the ass after simple soft bends to bend it straight and usable. 

 

So I ended up just getting cheap converters on Ebay for a few bucks, much easier than buying another expensive cable.

 Don't try  and bend your go pro cables straight they simply break inside. Save yourself more pain.

Well just Re Installed Quik and as expected crashes again for absolutely no reason. Crap Software.

I am a software engineer and know crap applications when I see it.

Just rebooted after second install. Useless piece of crap I am now uninstalling QUIK. There goes all my GPS and overlays for my videos.

 

I'll just use windows to access the GO PRO and copy the videos off what a waste of money. No its not my PC I know my setup and its state.

 

Rant over not much more I can do with Crap software.

The software functionality is a big reason why I ended up going with a competitors action camera and I must say both their mobile app and desktop editing software is awesome (competitors) and haven't experienced one crash or error.

I was a fan of Gopro when I was younger and had my Hero2. They were leading edge, reliable cameras that did what was advertised better than the competitors. But it seems they've gone away from those standards in recent products, and I've heard many complaints about lack of support/long warranty processes and decided I did not want any part of it.

Also just the fact of how many issues I saw regarding leaking H5's, losing files, dying/turning on by itself when it shouldn't, etc.. For a $600 (CAD) camera it shouldn't be experiencing these issues so frequently (as the $500 cad action camera I just bought doesn't).

I'm hoping they'll get the waterproofing right in the future to where it's actually reliable to take your camera to its allowed depth without fear of leaking. Although unless they release something amazing I don't see myself continuing to purchase from Gopro.
I will however use their mounts and accessories as the knockoff ones from amazon are crap.

The problem with QUIK was it requires the Akamai NetSession Client to be given the all clear by your firewall. If you disallow Akamai NetSession Client Quik will not work. The funny thing is though there is no need for QUIK from a software development point of view to make that mandatory.

 

In any case the solution was allowing Akamai NetSession Client to have the access it wants via the firewall.
