HEVC file size

Hi guys,

I'm confused about file sizes. Anywhere I read, files recorded with HEVC should have huge difference in size compared to H.264. I'm comparing videos from HERO8 recorded in various settings with either HEVC or H.264 + HEVC and difference is just about 1-2%. For example:

1080p50, H.264 + HEVC, bitrate high, length 30s, file size: 218 MB

1080p50, HEVC, bitrate high, length 30s, file size: 216 MB

1080p50, H.264 + HEVC, bitrate standard, length 30s, file size: 164 MB
1080p50, HEVC, bitrate standard, length 30s, file size: 163 MB

4K50 are always recorded with HEVC codec, no matter if setting is HEVC or H.264 + HEVC.

I can not see video quality difference between HEVC and H.264 (bitrate is roughly the same in both). Can anyone explain why those file sizes are quite the same?

Regards,

Lucas
