If I select the option to update the Firmware from the "Update Available" link in Quic and a notes window pops up, above it there is some text, on the second line it says: Release invalid date, if I click the 'Terms of Use" checkbox the "Update" button activates, I press the button and am told: "Something went wrong, contact ......"!

Me too. Downgraded to 1.60 because of the decreased stabilization.

Thanks all.

Same.

Downgraded to V1.6

Stabilisation was why I brought the H6 last week.

Having said that, I also ordered a Feiyu G5 on impulse after I failed to find a v1.6 download after they released v2.01.

Again fate plays her hand and I managed to find it today..

Oh well.

hi all,

we all are customers, we perceive the same moments|things|features in different ways.

we use our camera in different conditions.

we judge different features from our point of view.

to me, EIS in v02.01 looks good, more natural.

it is indeed not so aggressive as v01.60, and therefore I do not see so often that "jumps" in the image as in  v01.60.

but is usable, makes his job, and can be used even in low light (even with not so good results, at least does not ruin the footage)

______________

I was today on the same trail/path I made the karma grip and v01.60 stabilisation

stabilisation in the same conditions (even worst as is very clody today)...

I just want to share two moments night rides.

camera mounted on the backpack strap, it is a very flimsy mount.

therefore those right left movements.

in v01.60 I was not able to use EIS during the night!

now I can!

no more jelly, no jumping street lights

it is not a "still" image, but it can be used.

Re: HERO6 Black Update! v02.01

Robert, not sure what you think you're seeing in those nighttime shots, but EIS is completely disabled in 2.01 in those low light conditions.

With v1.6, it might have attempted to stablize in low light, but you would end up with a lot of visible motion blur because the sensor itself is still shaking.  Of course you can acheive the same results as 2.01 with v1.6 by simply manually turning EIS off at night.

Other than stabilization being completely disabled in low light conditions I really see very little difference between the stablization in 1.6

and 2.01. During the day it seems to work about the same.   The glitch I saw before when the camera moves quickly on roll axis past

the stabilization limit hasn't changed at all.

Re: HERO6 Black Update! v02.01

[ New ]

Robert - thanks for sharing. The 1.60 seems to be more stabilized, with some more roll axis jerks.

The 2.01 seems to be less stabilized with less roll axis jerks. So Go pro seems to have just decreased the stabilization algorithm to make it appear as if the roll axis jerks are fixed... when actually, it seems to be less stabilized. I guess it suits you if you are riding a bike with lots of micro jitters, but if you are walking, you want a stable picture, instead of the constant movement, - or as Go Pro markets it... more 'natural' movement. Haha they are great marketers. I wish they would fix the underlying issue though.

Mine is sticking on 1.60 for now.

Re: HERO6 Black Update! v02.01

I do prefer the new colour tones of the comparison video shared in the earlier pages. However, I would not use the new FW for my mountain biking videos, the stabilisation on the new firmware is horrible.

Those looking for the old FW. I found a google drive link here for FW1.60

Kudos @robert1326! Same sentiments.

There's a limitation to "powerful" stabilization in that you'll get the jittery jump if you happen to walk heavily or have an abrupt movement. I honestly think there's no software you can program to have stabilization so good that you can film on the move without being careful with your movements.

+1 for the natural movements. If you really want a stable footage, get a gimble/steadicam/ronin. Otherwise, this should be just fine!

Re: HERO6 Black Update! v02.01

Indeed, it is a very personal choice. As much as I prefer the more aggressive EIS in 1.6, I still have to be mindful that EIS does and always will have limitations.

After reviewing more footage and testing. I must also say that low light performance of 2.01 is so much better.

Seems that the gimbal will come in handy afterall.

Again, thank you all for sharing your findings.

Maybe 2.1 will be just right.

hi @daemn42,

in v01.60, if the EIS was on, the image is ruined.

the street lights, the faraway lights, were "dancing" in the image.

on my bike, I do not want to stop and change settings.

this is what I meant, I can use it, leave it on, if indeed in low light deactivates, great, in good light works, great again

I made a lot of tests with hero5 in which indeed stabilization in low light 1080@30fps is disabled

I'm not sure about h6...let me test this again on h6

hi,

yep, you are right!

indeed EIS is disabled in low light

once in low light h6 disable the EIS.... this is good.

as I said to customer support back in time when I raise the h5 low light disabled EIS.

it would be nice to "see" the stabilisation icon grey on the monitor screen when is disabled.

Interesting thing to note. After updating to 2.01 trying to create slow motion videos in gopro studio would result in unwatchable, glitchy footage once exported. Reverted back to the previous version today and it works perfectly fine now. This new update was an early april fools joke, right gopro? Staying at the previous version now and forever.

Just been on my skiing holiday and tested the new firmware out there. The stabilisation is reduced a fair bit during the day in my opinion. Most videos I took appear to be more natural than on 1.6 but I'm not sure that's a good thing for these kind of sports. Silky smooth footage is a big selling point of this gopro and it appears to be worse now. I may have to downgrade to 1.6 :(.

Hello, I use the Hero6 especially for recordings of routes with motorcycles, for me version 2.01 is the most useful of the ones I have used since it brings out good image quality and colors and the stabilization is good, the camera was placed on top of the helmet, the asphalt was not very good and very windy and as you can see in the video the image is quite good, the video configuration is 1080 60Fps, stabilizer On and protune Off.

I do not know if you can appreciate it because youtube the video loses a lot of quality

seems that, if PT-on, voice-low or medium, no wav is recorded

Not sure why you would be having issues. When you connect to the app and go into settings, scroll down to near the bottom and verify that you are not updated.

Also, if you have access to a computer and have a SD card or USB adapter, a manual update can be done. Doing it manually has the benefit of allowing you to retain a copy of the update. It also seems to be the most reliable method. Of course, if you are using a computer, you can also update using the Quik desktop app.

Re: Hero 6 Update 02.01 raw audio no wav file [ New ]

For those that use ProTune on low, with minimal/raw processing, it may appear to be a silent file. Open the files in a decent audio editing program and then normalize them. Presto... the file will be amplified greatly and can then be listened to, and worked with as required or desired.
For those that don't want to take this step, and would like it fast and furious, the medium and higher processing levels are recommended by GoPro.

I confirm that in the PT on, low and medium wav files is there something.

I increased 650% the volume one of my wav files.

and I barely hear something.

I've tried many times through the app. Never shows up the update.

I even unistalled it from my phone and installed again. Once I open the app, connect to the camera and access the camera view,

nothing happens....

I will have to tried the manual updated....

thanks anyway.

hi @Anonymous,

do not bother too much with the app do not recognise camera has an update.

I encountered this in the past.

till I make a good habit of making a manual update.

go for the manual update.

save the files somewhere, as camera will delete them from the microSD card once software installed.

in this way you will have the files from this release, from the previous, etc. and you can, at any moment, what you want.

and from the experience we got, manual update is the safest one.

from apps (desktop or mobile) some strange behaviour after were seen.

Hello,

yesterday I tested the firmware 2.01. Especially the stabilizer.Extra the hardtail taken to have more shocks.
Especially in the second part of the underground is very rough.
I am very satisfied.More one can not expect of an electronic stabilization.
Only the quality loss when uploading to Youtube is enormous.
With the original file on the TV crisp and no artifacts.

Sorry for using google translate ;-)
