Gopro hero 5 session killed my laptop

So I got a go pro hero 5 session for Christmas. It had lots of problems straight out the box. As soon as I plugged it in to charge on my laptop is started to heat up. When I put in the brand new SD card it said that it was full. And when I gave up trying to fix that it wouldn't turn off. So the battery drained over night until it did. In the morning I thought I try it again so I charge it again on my computer. When I came back later to check on it. The hero was still not charged and my laptop wouldn't turn on at all even when the battery was taken out and plugged into the wall. So now i dont have a laptop to work on. Now I have a new Hero and I just started using it In the past 5 minutes and It already froze on me again. Any suggestions?

@daij07 - If the camera won't turn off, I'd suggest trying to do a reset on it by pressing the red shutter button and holding it down for about 11 seconds. I'd also make sure the firmware for the camera is up to date. I like to do a manual update as it is very reliable. Instructions on how to do taht are at https://gopro.com/update/hero5_session.
