Gopro deleted all my files

I've experienced all kinds of problems with Gopro software.  It converted some of my videos, but crashed repeatedly, and did not save any of the photos.  So I restarted Gopro Studio.  None of the files showed up, and they are now gone from the camera's memory card as well.  At no point did I ever tell the software to delete any files.

How do I tell it to never delete anything from the camera?  Why is it crashing?

I'm experiencing many more frustrations:

  • I can't upgrade GoPro Studio because you stopped supporting 32-bit Windows.  You do realize millions of people use 32-bit Windows, right?
  • I can't tell you which version Gopro Studio is because it lacks even a basic "About" window, something every other program ever made has.
  • I got strange errors trying to create an account to make this post in the forum.  One error was "the redirect uri provided is not authorized".  It only worked after I used my google+ account, something I did not want to do.
  • The main support page has no link to the forum.  I only found it by googling "gopro forum".
  • The AVI files that did get converted are huge and cannot be played in VLC.  I want compact H265's.

I'm very frustrated with this camera, and I think I'm going to have to return it.

Re: Gopro deleted all my files

When using GoPro Studio you should first download the files off of the camera and onto to computer.  Once your files are on your computer hard drive, then you can proceed to convert the files into .avi for editing if you wish.  It is not necessary to convert the files unless you are going to edit them in Studio.  The process of conversion is to uncompress the files.  This is why the file size is significantly larger.  When you are converting your files, you will designate to where the converted files will reside.  Studio seems to work best if this is into a folder on the desktop. After applying your edits in Step 2, you will export your project back into a mp4 file.  It is not neccessary to keep the avi files unless you think you will use them in another project and don't want to spend the time converting again.

To edit your import preferences, I believe these are the steps:

If you would like to change any of the settings of GoPro Studio, you can do so by selecting the GoPro Studio Importer icon on the top menu bar (Mac) or on the task bar (Windows).

The preference menu will let you change the import settings, file path, and camera name.

The default import location is C:\pictures\GoPro

You should check to see if your videos are residing in this location.

Not sure why you had a hard time finding this support group, the link is located on the front page of the support website https://gopro.com/help You get to this page by clicking "Support" from the tittle bar on any gopro web page or just gopro.com

I'm sorry that you are having difficulty with GoPro Studio.  If you are unwilling to upgrade to a 64 bit machine, you might want to try using your mobile device if you have one.  iPhone has two great apps, Splice and Quik and Android has Quik.  With these apps you can make pretty cool videos in minutes.  It is worth noting that if you stay on a 32 bit machine, you are going to find it harder and harder to find quality programs that will run on your machine.

Re: Gopro deleted all my files

Ive noticed the main issue with GoPro software is ME. Im 50 yrs. old and trying to learn this stuff myself. Be patient and ask for help from a Millenial. They're absolutly not good for anything else but they do get this stuff
