Gopro Hero3+ Silver SD Card in reboot loop

Hi all

 

I purchased a second hand GoproHero Silver 3+ off ebay a few months ago and I've had issues with it from the very begining....

 

I'll list what works and what doesn't:

 

What works:

 

Camera turns on and works perfectly with out the SD Card. I can change all the settings on the camera.

 

What doesn't work:

 

When the SD card is inserted to the gopro it goes into a reboot cycle and the only way to stop it is to take the battery out. IT WILL NOT LET ME ACCESS ANY SETTINGS ON THE CAMERA NOR WILL IT DO ANY TYPE OF UPDATING.

 

What I have done:

I have tried several class 10 SD cards that i've used in my DSLR and my other gopro hero 3+'s 3 of them and all of them work perfectly with the ALL SD cards.

 

I have tried doing a hard reset which does absolutely nothing.

 

I have contacted the seller to ask for the password that was with the camera and he is %100 certain that camera password is the default one. I call bs on this one because I have tried the default passwords that Gopro says to use and they don't work..

 

I have TRIED ALL of the update methods via the SD card and NONE of them work.. My only hope to get this gopro working is to be able to login via the GOPRO APP and do the update from their as i have done previously on one of my other gopro hero 3+.

 

Links to the download pages and tips on making sure that the folders are correct for the update to work have not worked and posting them to me is just wasting your time. I have gone through countless threads and download pages to try and get this gopro to work and obviously none have worked because if they did i wouldn't be posting this.

 

I have contacted the support team and they just feed me the links to the downloads and then ask if i want to upgrade my gopro to the latest one which i don't want to do.

 

I am hoping SOMEONE has had this issue before and has fixed it.

Hi @syked,

If the camera is working fine without SD card inserted, and the problem only happens whenever any SD card is connected, this can indicate a potential problem with either the SD card that you're using or the camera itself.

 

There are a couple of things that we can check in order to further isolate the problem.

  1. Ensure that you're using a known-good SD card for your camera. Check this link for the list of recommended cards.
  2. Perform a full format on the recommended SD card through your computer. Format Your SD Card Via Computer
  3. Once the SD card has been formatted, attempt to manually reinstall the firmware one more time. Follow the link below to our online support article which provides step by step instructions to update your camera: Software Update Instructions for HERO3+ Cameras

If the camera does not initiate the update it can be because the camera is not recognizing the update on the SD card. You will want to make sure to follow all of the instructions as outlined on the GoPro website's update page to ensure no steps are being missed. I do also have some suggestions here that should help get the update working as well. 

  • Make sure the UPDATE folder is unzipped/extracted, before placing it on the SD card. If the folder is compressed, the camera will not be able to read it; 

  • Ensure the UPDATE folder does not have any additional characters in the folder title, i.e. "UPDATE (1)". The camera will only recognize a folder titled "UPDATE", in upper case letters with no additional characters; 

  • Format the SD card before placing the update folder/files onto the root of the card (format on your PC / Mac, or DELETE ALL files in the camera's Delete menu); 

  • Be sure to place the entire UPDATE folder on the root level of the SD card. 

Once you have the necessary file(s) placed on the SD card, unplug it from the computer and insert the microSD card into your camera. Once it's plugged in, power on the camera. The update should automatically initiate. 

 

If the troubleshooting suggestions won't help resolve the problem, then this points us to a possible hardware issue on your camera causing the issue. Hi Aenriqueze.

I appreciate what you have posted but unfortunately as I said in my first post all of what you have said doesn't work.

I agree with the hardware issue which is a shame. Luckily I only picked it up for cheap. Weither or not to get it fixed is another question. Appreciate the help. If some I magically get this fixed with out the hardware replace I will post it up.
