Gopro Hero 5 - Static & Clicking Noise

What is causing this static / clicking noise?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWqf5P5cEBY

All of my gopro cameras seem to make this noise.  I have (2) Hero 5s and (2) 4s.  And all of them make this noise when I ride on a rough surface.

Quick spin around the start and finish of the Dirty Kanza 200 gravel race in 2017. Beautiful weather this year. I wrote a detailed blog post that will help other athletes maximize their results. There are lots of good hints on how to prepare and how to race the event ...

Re: Gopro Hero 5 - Static & Clicking Noise

If you pull the audio from the video using VLC or use the Protune audio option for a seperate audio file, can you just add the audio back in and mute the video file?

That's odd. Can you post the raw footage without editing or GPS over lay? Also, how is your camera mounted? Any other electrical components being used?

Re: Gopro Hero 5 - Static & Clicking Noise

It's mounted on this (for this video):

https://www.barflybike.com/shop/road-4-max-includes-garmin-polar-wahoo-mio-magellan-gopro-light-di2-...

The Garmin 820 sits on top of the barfly mount, and the gopro sits below it.

However, the gopros also make the same noise with this gopro mount:  http://shop.gopro.com/mounts/pro-handlebar-seatpost-pole-mount/AMHSM-001.html   But this video was NOT shot on the gopro mount.

I will need to post the raw footage shortly.

Re: Gopro Hero 5 - Static & Clicking Noise

Very interesting....  The raw gopro footage does not have this noise.  There is shaking and vibration because of the road surface that I would expect, but not the terrible static / clicking noise.

My work flow is the following:

Import raw mp4 files from gopro into the Garmin Virm Edit software.  My videos are very long, so I first need to combine them into one very large video before adding the data.  I export the video to mp4 and "merges" all videos into one large video.  From there, I bring the one large file back into Garmin Virb Edit and add the ride data.  From there I export again.  I basically export the video twice from Garmin Virb Edit.

Clearly the Garmin Virb Edit software is adding the noise.  That software must be interpreting the vibration as something else and adding the noise.  So strange.  Looks like I need to try Dashware....?

The gopro is in the black mounting case provided by gopro.
