@tye17616, this could mean that your camera can't properly communicate with the SD card. There are troubleshooting steps HERE that will help resolve the issue. Let us know how it works for you.

The only simple reason for your issue is that the camera of your system is not able to communicate with SD card properly..U need to contact officials to solve your issue...Regards

Have you  tried a fully formatted card, are the contacts on your card or cards worn out.  do you think the  camera's contacts are   oxiadized and need cleaning?  those are some  maintenance options that  can be looked at. cleaners. sprays and  filter papers can do the trick if you know  how to clean.

Remove the SD and battery from the camera. Press down on the top shutter button. While keeping the shutter pressed, insert only the battery. Continue holding down the top shutter and power on the camera. Once the camera is powered on, Press the Mode (front) button until you see the Setup Gear icon. Press the Shutter (top) button to select it. Press the Mode (front) button until Reset Cam is highlighted. Press the Shutter (top) button to select it. Press the Mode (front) button to highlight Reset. Press the Shutter (top) button to select it. After the camera powers on, wait a few seconds and then power off. Insert the SD card and power on.

If it still doesn't recognize the SD, try the above steps with a different card. If that doesn't work, contact the seller to get an exchange.

GoPro doesn't do repairs. You could try replacing the motherboard https://www.ifixit.com/Store/GoPro/GoPro-Hero4-Silver-Motherboard/IF300-013?o=1 but this is not a guaranteed fix.

You are better off contacting the seller for an exchange or refund.

If you purchased through GoPro and have the receipt, you can try contacting the GoPro Support Team and see if they have some options for you. Obviously the camera is well beyond the one year warranty (unless purchased from GoPro in the Clearance/Refurbished section within the last year).

You can use the camera for a Trade Up https://shop.gopro.com/tradeup

1-2 year warranty

extended warranty  are offered for  a few plus years, gopro offers as well an extended warranty.

call gopro about the warranty and see tehir options they  can offer.  if you are out of warranty, they wil lwork with you on  offers and options.

For downgrading google the camera  I beleive the Hero 4 black and silver use the same firmware you can downgrade yes.

will a new board offer the solution, the question is, is does the new board have the proper software on so no issues  are  going to happen. a member   questioned that his gopro mother board refuses to work a newly purchased one,

you may seek outside repair centers to  fix the issue if it is fixable  good luck on it
