I charged it fully using an apple charger with the GoPro wire. This worked fine first time and second time (after I had been using it). I plugged it in hoping it would upload items to the cloud (I believe it has to be plugged in with a WiFi connection and once it reaches 100% battery it will start uploading to the cloud over the WiFi). however when I tried charging to again last night through the apple charge it got up to about 90% and now won’t charge any further. The only way I can charge it is now to plug it into my laptop (which is connected to the mains).
Can anyone help? Have you had similar problems?

does the light go out once it is charged via the apple charger . and when you turn off and back on it clearly is at 90%. the rate of the cager should be 1.2 or higher is it?

No - it doesn't charge at all with the apple charger - no lights at all - nothing.
It only will charge connected to the laptop. When charged through the laptop it will get to 100% though at least.

You can get a charger that meets the specs in this article https://gopro.com/help/articles/question_answer/Recommended-Chargers
It might also help to have your charger connected to a surge protector (not just a power strip, but one that regulates power). If you are subscribed to GoPro Plus and have successfully set up the Auto Cloud update using the GoPro mobile app, then you are correct about the camera being able to do so when in range of your Wi-Fi. However, it will not work when charged through a computer USB port (at least it's not supposed to).

If that is your only charger then I suggest finding another and try. tha rating must be to gopro's standards they do note it in the book.
the 1A may work they need to be at least an Amp

UPDATE - I took the camera back to the shop and got a replacement.
New one still won't charge except through Laptop.
Can anyone recommend a good USB charger (UK 3 pin) that will work? I don't really want to fork out another £50 for the official GoPro charger (especially as it is built on a US 2 pin plug and needs an adaptor).
GoPro advice seems to be a 5v-2a is necessary?
