I know you guys are working hard on fixing the issues powering the preamp for audio on external microphones, and we know as users that it's an issue thats going to take a while to fix.
In the mean time there is something you can do that would be very simple for GoPro, and be of enormous value to users
Take the dB level from the audio (which is an available value - you do so much audio processing interenally!) and ad a single pixel audiometer on the screen like this.
In this mockup red would be up to -6dB, yello -6db-0dB and white to show peaking - but you have UI people for that!
we would not only be able to see an indicative quality of audio but would be able to see if an external mic isn't working before we film a vlog or interview or skate sequence for several minutes.
It's a quick win for you GoPro!
Who else thinks this would be a cool feature to have on your gopro?!

Thanks for getting back so quick and passing it on. I know that this would save a huge number of people a mass of frustration - and stop them from looking at the gopro as a risk when filming something dynamic!

Below are three photos. the 1st is a Kodak ZI8, the 2nd just a photo added colors, the 3rd if on the camera.
GoPro needs to stop being behind and offering us a zoom that was around for 15 years in other camera's. the Mic has been around for ten plus years. Kodak Zi 8 The Bar is great and should also be added with Livestream as a Bitrate strength meter as well. like Wirecast for Youtube. Green is Perfect for top strength, orange or yellow for weak, red cor failing and no signal.
I rather see a Mic may use less power and make more sense to the People on here that can notfigure out things on tehir own.
that said why the Hell on earth when plugging in the ProMic you do not see any icom at all but only in Preference, and well that is the answer they can not figure crap out!

If gopro allows it o be internal and or external it can be made an option to manually set on or off by the User the Kodak was on when in the setting to see the level when recording it nevershowed on the screen , if anyone wants to see the Kodak in a owrking state "Just Ask".
