Re: GoPro Video Stabilization with gimbal?

[ Edited ]

The disabling of Wi-Fi and EIS has been since before the update to the stabilizer, although I don't know if it was present before all of the camera updates.

wifi also gets disabled in my Grip.

Haven't noticed that yet in my Grip but will check that asap.

As I already mentioned in one of my previous posts in this topic about an hour ago: "This issue is definetely independent from the firmware update failure [...]"

BUT: Why did EIS stayed enabled for me when mounted the H5B to the Grip? And why has it been turned off suddenly a few weeks later although I haven't changed the hardware and software? Is the hardware able to change his mind suddenly?

Re: GoPro Video Stabilization with gimbal?

As I said, I don't know if it was present before all of the cameras updates.

It did, it didn't... Unless it's consistently staying on and forcing you to manually turn it off to retain full frame, what does it matter? If you can replicate the "issue" then it might be possible to figure out the cause. If not, then your guess is as good as anyone's.

I doubt it has to do with SD cards and don't see how that could have any effect.

I'm your case, it's all guesses. Perhaps your camera wasn't updated. Perhaps the USB connection didn't initiate correctly. Perhaps you only think it stayed on, but it didn't.

As firmware v2.00 for the H5B has already been released (and was installed on my cam) before the Karma Grip has been released as a stand-alone product (and I purchased it), I don't care about that to be honest.

As a technician it always seems to be pretty cool to me when also customers could understand what's going on inside their products and why. Sometimes that makes sense due to the fact that products might behave senseless in the eyes of customers.

Pretty good idea and I would really like to do that but unfortunately it cannot be replicated anymore. And that's my one and only problem. But I'd like to understand the problem. Nothing more, nothing less.

In order to understand (technical) problems or so-called (but senseless?) "features" implemented by the manufacturer, guessing is sometimes the only way to get in the right direction.

As I already mentioned: This was just a misunderstanding on my side due to translation issues as not everybody's mother's language is english. Sorry for that, forget about it and please read carefully before posting.

@danielr15 wrote:

As I already mentioned twice: I didn't apply any changes to the hardware and software. Please read carefully before posting. However, this "issue" appeared anyway.

And I was able to shoot more than 500 clips in a few weeks with an incorrectly initiated USB connection? I doubt.

Although I'm a proud owner of a well-build phantasy, I'm still able to distinguish what's reality and what's imagination. Thanks. As long as I'm able to use my eyes correctly I can see wether the EIS icon is being displayed on the cam's screen (=EIS on) or not (=EIS off).

Re: GoPro Video Stabilization with gimbal?

@davebentley, it's probably best to shoot some stuff that's typical for your needs with and without and compare them.  I find the Grip has some limitations and that the EIS smooths things out in an impressive way, especially when shooting in FOV's other than wide or superwide.  But that's just me and your mileage may differ greatly.

To me, this feature is one of the biggest upgrades between the Hero4 and Hero5, yet both the Grip and the Karma turn it off by default which I find annoying.

All best,

Hamish
