GoPro Phishing Email (Potential)

I received a suspicious email today suggesting a GoPro promotion. I went to look for the unsubscribe link (as is required according to the FTC's CAN SPAM Act) but noticed there is not one included in this email... first red flag. I believe GoPro brand to be reputable organization and would not send out a marketing campaign that breaks the law. Also, I see the url the logo is linked to is also suspicious... (http://) not a secure connection... + (e-mail.gopro.com) does not jive with me either...

Re: GoPro Phishing Email (Potential)

The logos are consistent. GoPro over the four boxes is our logo. If you're asking about the colors, we use the multi-color version in some situations, and we use a one-color version in others.

There is an unsubscribe link. It's at the bottom of the email. It looks like this...

Unsubscribe.jpg

The links in the email will take you to pages on our site that are secured (https:) pages. If you have any concerns though, there is no need to click on any of the links. All of the information can also be found on the main gopro.com site.

Re: GoPro Phishing Email (Potential)

Gopro@e-mail.gopro.com is our email mailbox for offers and promos. The URL you've highlighted is the link to view that email in your browser.

Re: GoPro Phishing Email (Potential)

Thanks for the response and confirming this is not a phishing email Jefft. Unfortunately (and prior to my post in this forum), I reported the email as suspicious to Google (Gmail). Because of these issues I also added e-mail.gopro.com to my sender blacklist.

Thanks,

S

Re: GoPro Phishing Email (Potential)

Meant as friendly criticism:

RE: logo treatment
In my experiences, and during new hire training for several contract gigs I've done lately, it is often suggested that inconsistent logos could be a sign of a phishing scam. As a brand and user interface designer, I can appreciate the need to logo variations. Just food for thought I guess... when I saw the variance in design treatment, my first reaction was... red flag.

RE: unsubscribe
I thought I had saved a copy of the email. I wanted to confirm that I had overlooked the unsubscribe in th footer. I must have deleted the copy though as I can not find it now; albeit I do recall looking for the unsubscribe in that location. I'll yield and take your word for it.

RE: unsecure links
yes, I could not click them... or you could update them in the email from http to https so there's no concern? anyway, I've blocked future emails so it's really a non-issue.

Thanks for the feedback and clarification. In today's world of privacy and data breaches, I don't feel concerned about being... concerned.
