Re: GoPro Hero 8 Black Losing 2nd half of file after 5:20 Bug (video included)

I to thought it would only happen when using quick-capture. A couple more tests proved that wrong as well.

Re: GoPro Hero 8 Black Losing 2nd half of file after 5:20 Bug (video included)

Anyway my settings are 4k 30p highbitrate and hypersmooth off.    Stop the recording around th 7:40 mark and you should see the issue.

Re: GoPro Hero 8 Black Losing 2nd half of file after 5:20 Bug (video included)

Sorry, I tried your settings and recorded for exactly 7:40 (not in QuikCapture) and the files were saved properly - two files of 3.9 and 1.7 GB.

I repeated the test with the same camera settings but using QuikCapture and got the same results - everything normal, two files were saved, 4 GB and 1.9 GB (I was recording an active TV screen this time hence the bigger files).

Are you long-pressing when you start QuikCapture? I know, dumb question, but just to eliminate the possibility that your camera was making a timelapse.

Re: GoPro Hero 8 Black Losing 2nd half of file after 5:20 Bug (video included)

hi,

made 4K 4:3 many tests using quick  from 6 to 13 min each... works.

I forgot to ask you guys...did you update the firmware manually?

meaning: using a microSD card on which you copy the UPDATE folder that contains three files.

from desktop browser:

https://gopro.com/en/us/update/hero8-black

and follow the manual upgrade link

https://gopro.com/en/us/support/product-update/register-camera

the serial number write it down from GoPro menu: About....not need to read it inside camera.

use a fresh formated microSD card.

Re: GoPro Hero 8 Black Losing 2nd half of file after 5:20 Bug (video included)

my thoughts here:

could be a microSD card at the limit.

or a software bug.

or something was not installed (firmware upgrade) as it should.

when using quick capture, at the end, when push stop, camera have to do:

- write the last bits in the file.

- make the power off cycle.

could be something here...

but again, on mine does not happen.... this is why I rather pinpoint to the microSD cards o

here is the 7:40 min 4K 4:3 high rate (100mbps)  ..... two chunks, one 5:19 (3.9GB) one 2:20 (1.7GB)...you can check the rates, duration below:

hope this helps,

Re: GoPro Hero 8 Black Losing 2nd half of file after 5:20 Bug (video included)

With my tests I was careful to give the camera time to do its thing after stopping the video, maybe that's a factor (not pressing other options before the file is saved). ?

Right, I had to laugh when I long-pressed and couldn't figure out why I'd gotten a "stunning" timelapse of shoes on a boot porch.
