GoPro Hero 7 Black freezes mid recording

[ New ]

Hello, I got my GoPro Hero 7 Black in December after my Hero 5 somehow getting partial water damage on my vacation. For the past few days I have been using my camera and it will randomly freeze during my recording. To get rid of this freezing I have to take the battery out and back in to reset the camera. Here is a picture of the camera frozen in the middle of the recording about 5 minutes after it froze, I also have a video of it frozen at 1:34, but it doesn't allow me to post a video.

What SD card are you using? have you tried with a different card from the recommended list?

Perform a manual update using a recommended SD card, turn Auto Low Light OFF and set the Display orientation to UP. Test and see if you are still having issues.

Make sure you are using a SD card from this list https://gopro.com/help/articles/block/microSD-Card-Considerations

Go to the Update page and choose your HERO7 camera. https://gopro.com/update
Under "Other ways to update" at the base of the page, click "Update your camera manually."
Enter your Serial Number and other requested information, click Next Step.
Click "Download Update."
Click "Click here to download firmware."
Once downloaded, Extract (unzip) the UPDATE.zip file. You will get a folder named UPDATE with files inside. Save this to your computer.

Using a USB/SD adapter, insert your SD card into the computer. Find the card using Windows Explorer (or Finder on Mac) and perform a FULL (not Quick) format.

Once the format is complete, copy the UPDATE folder (not UPDATE.zip) to the blank SD card

Eject the card and insert into your camera. Power on the camera using the side Mode/Power button and let the update run.

Once completed, power the camera on using the Mode/Power button and go to Preferences>Reset> and format the SD (it's also a good idea, but not required, to factory reset the camera Preferences>Reset>Factory Reset).

If you continue to have issues, try the above with another card from the list.

Try a different, known good SD card. GoPro recommends only purchasing name brand SD cards through reputable resellers. There are both counterfeit and under-performing SD cards out in the marketplace, which can prevent proper functioning of your camera's features.

If trying all of the above does not solve your issue, contact the GoPro Support Team. https://gopro.com/help/ContactUs

How about Gopro admits there's a problem with their cameras and fix it?

Try removing the SD card and see if the camera still freezes up. If it no longer freezes, then the issue is likely stemming from the SD card

Hello @loyalstar1832. No need to change the name of the folder. You may now open it and copy the files in it (just the files not the folder) to your SD card and proceed.
