GoPro Hero 7 Black USBC-USBC
[ New ]Just got the Hero 7 Black and am very satisfied with the hardware and the first resulting videos. The camera firmware and most of all the iOS and macOS apps seem to be a bit wonky at times but this is not the topic of this post.
I have the same problem/misunderstanding as an Italian user (Link). When I connect my GoPro via USB3 to my iMac 2017 it charges and I can transfer files.
As my iMac also has two USBC ports I thought I could take advantage of higher power and faster transfer speeds using a USBC-USBC (v3.1) cable to connect the camera. But it does not seem to work. The camera doesn't charge when connected and I cannot access the files on the camera.
Where did I go wrong?

Re: GoPro Hero 7 Black USBC-USBC
[ New ]Hello @talkietoaster. As not all USB-C cables are the same, some may support only certain data, transfer speeds, or protocols such as transferring data and power simultaneously. It is always best to use the cable provided in the camera package for charging and importing files directly to a computer.

Re: GoPro Hero 7 Black USBC-USBC
[ New ]So if one were to own a current MacBook which only has USB-C Ports, how would I go about connecting the GoPro? Is there a recommended selection of USBC to USBC cables that are certified to work by GoPro or is it really the idea to buy an adapter from USBC to USB3 to then connect the USB3 to USBC cable provided by GoPro?

Re: GoPro Hero 7 Black USBC-USBC
[ New ]So let me recap:
I have two devices with USBC ports and you need two adapters to connect them ?!?
You (and GoPro) can't be serious ...

Re: GoPro Hero 7 Black USBC-USBC
[ New ]The computer, which has a USB-C port would need an adapter. Why would the camera need an adapter? The other side of the cable is USB-C, which fits the GoPro camera.

Re: GoPro Hero 7 Black USBC-USBC
[ New ]Lets repat this:
- My computer has USB-C
- My GoPro has USB-C
- A state of the art (v3.1) USB-C to USB-C direct cable wont work (no charge, no data transfer)
- GoPro tells me to use the supplied USB-C to USB-2/3 cable (which is in effect an adapter)
- I need to get a USB-C to USB-2/3 adapter for my computer.
So I am supposed to use two adapters GoPro=>USBC->USB2/3=>USB2/3->USBC=>Computer. And all of this for a connection that should just be GoPro=>USBC->USBC=>Computer.
What's the point of having two devices with a seemingly universal USB-C port if a direct connection (without any adapters) between the two will not work...
