GoPro Hero 7 Black Crashes

I'm experiencing crashes/freezes with my 1 week old Hero 7 Black. It seems to freeze when I have got the camera on, attached to a selfie stick and have swaying by my leg after I have recorded something as you would naturally do if you weren't using it at that moment in time and didn't want to turn the camera off.

I bring it back up to start recording again and the rear display is just a frozen image of the floor or whatever it last was looking at when it froze. I hold the power and capture button for numerous amount of seconds and the camera turns off, after that I can't turn the camera on for a couple of mintues, which is seriously frustrating as I just spent £320 on a brand new camera which constantly discovering issues.

My camera is upto date with the lastest firmware, I did it straight out the box.

Things to try:

  1. Check your SD card and make sure it's on this list
    1. Try a second card if possible
  2. Perform a manual update with a formatted SD card
    1. Download the manual update
    2. Extract the UPDATE folder to your computer
    3. Do a FULL (not Quick) format of your SD card
    4. Copy the UPDATE folder (not UPDATE.zip) to the SD card
    5. Eject the card and put it in your camera
    6. Power the camera on using the SIDE mode/power button
    7. Once completed, go to Preferences>Reset and Format the SD card in your camera
    8. Go back into Preferences>Reset> and factory reset the camera
  3. Set the camera orientation (found in the display settings) to UP
  4. Turn off Auto Low light

Let us know how it works out.

Re: GoPro Hero 7 Black Crashes

If it's swaying as you say, the auto rotate might be causing the lock up. Try setting the orientation to UP only.

Hi @carminec2132

You may also try switching the Low Light settings to OFF.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks!
