GoPro Hero 7 Black Crashes / Freezes when using External Power with Battery Inserted [ New ]

I appreciate that, but the problem I'm having is with charging. I'm not even trying to connect it to the gimbal wirelessly.

I don't know how familiar you are with the G6, but one of its features is that you can use it as an external power source for the GoPro while it is in use, the gimbal battery charges the GoPro while the gimbal is in use. That was why I got it because I need the camera to record for several hours without stopping.

Do you think it matters if the battery is an official GoPro product? I had an aftermarket battery in when it was freezing.

I did run it with no battery for an hour ride with no problems.

@markj48742, it is recommended to use GoPro brand batteries to ensure that you get the optimum functionality of the camera. In addition to this, I suggest removing the battery if you will be using the camera for very long-term shooting to prevent the camera from overheating – at some point, preventing potential damage to the battery as well. Other users have expressed similar suggestion when using any external power source (G6 in your case) for continuous recording.

Any solution to this problem? I'm using a 2300mAh backpack and I am seeing consistent crashes after 45mins to 1hr 30 mins of recording w/ plenty of battery capacity available.

With external power source and recording the temp of the GoPro near camera lens is up to 133F in a non-direct sunlight air conditioned house at 70F.

That seems pretty warm. I'm starting to wonder if all of these issues are thermal shutdown related.

The GoPro will stop recording if it reaches 125F.
