A bit of a weird problem, I didn't even notice this until I was reviewing my scuba diving footage. They're not as stabilized as I would've expected so I looked into it...
I noticed that when I'm previewing on the GoPro screen or on my phone screen and deliberately jitter a bit, the stabilization works wonderfully, however, as soon as I press the recording button, it jitters like normal. I tried to jitter consistantly and change the setting to no stabilization and record a footage, then compare both footages (stabilized and non-stabilized) they appear the same - both jittery.
But it looks fine on screen before I start recording. Why?
Thanks in advance for your help.

- Restore factory setting
- Camera default
- Manually updating firmware (v02.01)
The memory card I used was SanDisk 64gb Micro SDXCI 3
I also tried switching to a different memory card which was the Lexar 64gb Micro SDXCII 3 and the results were the same.

Hello @leanneh88742 ,
Appreciate you thoroughly examining the issue by performing troubleshooting steps as well. The SD cards that you have are recommended ones so we are good with them.
The preview on the phone screen (via GoPro App) uses a low-resolution version of your GoPro media. It is probably why the way the video plays back is different. When you mentioned that "it looks fine on the screen before I start recording," did you mean the screen of your phone, or the camera? How does the playback go when done on a computer, or a different device?
If the likeness in the stabilization effect between videos recorded with and without stabilization is consistently observed in different devices/ media players, you might want to connect with our Team for further assistance. You can reach the team through phone or chat here https://gopro.com/help/ContactUs Sample footage/videos showing the issue will be very helpful.

Thank you for your quick reply.
I think this might explain it better:
When I deliberately jitter the camera with stabilization ON
(I'm not jittering it like crazy but just tiny shakes like you would casually recording)
- GoPro screen NOT recording: Smooth
- Phone screen (GoPro app) NOT recording: Smooth
- GoPro screen recording: Jittery
- Phone screen (GoPro app) recording: Jittery
- GoPro screen playback: Jittery
- Phone screen (GoPro app) playback: Jittery
- Laptop playback: Jittery

Thank you for posting the video sample, @leanneh88742. It clearly demonstrated the issue that you were observing. It would be much better if we can test with different capture settings (higher fps would be favorable, use of proper mount is also recommended), as well as lighting environments (better lighting, better footage) to gather more information. I did the same test that you did - used a HERO6 Black camera, recorded at 1080p, 60 fps with video stabilization on and gathered the same results, except that even the preview for not recording on the GoPro App also showed the jittery effect from moving my hand.
Our Support team will be able to sort this out further. If you can, please get in touch with them through phone or chat here https://gopro.com/help/ContactUs Let us know how it works out.

Thank you for your quick response again. I have tried using 2.7k 60fps and it was the same.
I will get in touch with the support team tomorrow.
