Since a couple of day's i own a GoPro Hero 6.
There is no way to connect it to the GoPro App on my Smartphones (Google Pixel 2 or One Plus 2).
I did a Firmeware Update to 1.6 over a Laptop which worked fine.
I tried 2,4 & 5 Ghz - no chance.
The Camera display it's Name & Password. The Phone see's the Cam an prompts for the password. After entering, both devices display "connecting.." (The Cam switches to the Cam-View and shows a rotationg circle). After a while both show - Error in connection.
There are no Networks or Bluetooth connections listed on the Phone, and also a reset on Cam / Phone (Bluetooth / WiFi) didn't help.
Any Ideas ?

Give these steps a try:
1. On camera, go to Connections > Wi-Fi Band > choose 2.4 GHz
2. On phone's wifi settings, forget the camera's AP. Then manually re-connect to it and enter the password.
3. Launch the GoPro app.
Let us know how it goes.

This didn't help.
BUT after switching back to 5GhZ, i could get a connect, but not more.
When i try to transfer a File it failed. The connect to a PC via USB does work fine...
When i retry the connection, every 3'rd connection attemp is succesfull.
Any more ideas?

Do Gopro formally recognise the inability for the Hero 6 Black to connect to some/all android over 5GHz Wifi?
Is a fix possible with F/W update?
Simply using 2.4GHz is not an acceptable solution.

One thing I do now which seems to work is when I open go pro app, I immediately go straight to the camera, wait for the wifi symbol to go blue before going into live view mode or into my files
Was on first gen pixel now on pixel 2 so have experienced these same issues as you..
