An open message to the software developers at GoPro...
For those of us who use our GoPro cameras for underwater activities like snorkeling - please either give us back the Narrow FOV or make it so the zoom adjustment holds after power off and back on. With my Hero 5 camera, I used the narrow FOV for its zoom effect. When snorkeling, you are mostly limited to being on the surface of the water, and depending on how deep the water is, you can be quite far from the things you are trying to record (fish, corals, etc). On my new Hero 6, I can use the linear FOV and zoom, but it is cumbersome at best. If you use a supersuit, the back screen is covered, so you have to set the zoom level before you snap the back cover in place. If you turn off the camera, the zoom level reverts back to its widest setting.
With my Hero 5, I could set up the camera for narrow FOV and use Quikcapture to start the camera AFTER I swim to my area of interest. With the Hero 6, I have to turn on the camera, set the zoom level, snap it into the supersuit, leave it running while I swim to my area of interest (using up precious battery life), and then start actual recording. If I could set the zoom on the shore (or boat), then turn off the camera and have that zoom setting still in place when I use Quikcapture, that would be great.

Thanks, Ryan. I submitted feedback as you indicated. I'm hoping that this is something could be addressed in a firmware update. I just got back from snorkeling in St. Lucia and the video quality of the camera using the flat color pallette and natural white balance was phenominal. I just miss that bit of extra zoom. Happy Holidays! :-)
