I am new to GoPro and it has been nothing but trouble. My GoPro Hero 5 Black drains battery for no reason, does not charge correctly, randomly jumps from single photo mode to burst or video mode, takes videos and photos when in my pocket or backpack, creates images that Google Photos cannot upload, and other issues. I was not able to take any photos or videos or our Sunday event. Saturday I charged my GoPro. Red light showed was completely charged. Sunday just before we got into the Funyaking inflatable kayaks I turned on the camera. It showed 12% battery even though it was 50% before I charged it Saturday. I tried to charge via power bank for a couple hours. When we arrived mid way for our snack break I checked the battery level. Camera gave Low Battery alert message indicating it had not charged at all. I disconnected the camera from power bank and planned to charge when I returned home. At home I turned on the camera and it showed that it was 100% charged. Not certain if problem is battery or camera. I plan to buy camara case and extra batteries which should arrive in a few weeks. Maybe the camera drains power when in backpack but that does not explain why it would show 0% battery then 100% battery. I am using the official GoPro USB cable and battery provided with the camera. I have updated the firmware to the most current version.

Could be faulty hardware, Did you try removing the battery and pressing the mode button over ten seconds t o do a hard rest. even a factory reset, just remember your settings. For turning on in your pocket or whatever, careful if it is bumping against anything, it can turn on via the shutter button and record?
SOftware/firmware updates bugs and fixes, but not sure if it can fix a battery isuse. try hetting to support. If a Staff member pops in they shoul arrange contact and time then to simply answer and you straighten out then wasting vcaulale and persona time willtake hours on end

I tried contacting Chat support but they are unavailable. They are either busy with other customers or not available. I suspect faulty hardware. I removed the battery and pressed mode button for 10 seconds but nothing happened. Added the battery back in and pressed mode button for 10 seconds which showed power dramatically draining 100, 75, 50, 35%. I then pressed power mode button and it showed 100% battery. Nothing in my pocket other than the camera yet it turns itself on and starts taking videos or photos. I agree that the firmware updates have not improved the battery issue.

so sorry to hear. it is frustrating, if your camera is an online purchse still under a return best to do that, or store purchase. Understanding its past that then its in gopro's hand andsad we have to wait forever.
keep at it you'll get it resolved by a replacement.

Called and technical support is sending me a replacement battery. I just need to show proof of purchase and provide mailing address. I want to find electrical information regarding wall chargers officially supported for this camera. I am using an Aukey Quick Charge 2.0 wall charger https://www.aukey.com/products/quick-charge-2-0-wall-charger-pa-u28, Anker PowerCore 20100 power bank https://www.anker.com/products/variant/PowerCore-20100mAh/A1271012, or my LG V10 wall charger with the official GoPro USB cable to charge camera.

They did not offer alteratives. They said they would email me for my information within 10 minutes after the call but has been over an hour and not received email. Charging via computer is slow and consumes extended time compared to wall charger. I use power bank when wall charger option not available.

My GoPro batteries arrived from Amazon. I noticed my official GoPro USB cable has connection issue and too much wiggle room. This results in having to press firmly into camera and wall charger. I initially assumed it was the Aukey Quick Charge 2.0 wall charger but noticed same issue in my LG V10 wall charger. Camera only charged to 13% before giving up with Aukey wall charger. Progressed further with the LG V10 wall charger 30%. I also ordered from Amazon the Snowkids USB cable which appears to have firm hold in both camera and wall charger. I will let you know results later after I have charged the new batteries. Hoping the combination of the Amazon Basics GoPro small case, spare batteries, and Snowkids USB type 3 cable will address the battery drain issue.
