What SD card are you using (make/model/size)?
What Resolution/frame rate are you using?
Is Protune ON or OFF?
Is the camera second hand?
Where did you purchase the camera?

Re: GoPro Hero 5 black Can't record more than 4 mins

Well, first things first. Take your SanDisk Ultra and light it on fire. Once it's done melting bury it in a hole six feet deep so nobody mistakenly uses it again. It is by far the worst SD card.

This isn't to say that your issue is definitively the SD card, but until you try with a card from the recommended list, we can't be sure. https://gopro.com/help/articles/block/microSD-Card-Considerations#list2

The reason I asked about the camera being second hand is for two reasons.
First, it's possible the previous owner got water inside the camera and therefore knows that there is an issue.

Second, this most likely means you do not have access to the original purchase receipt. Without the original purchase receipt, the GoPro Support Team isn't going to be able to offer you much in ways of a solution other than using your camera as a Trade Up https://gopro.com/en/us/shop/tradeup

You want to first try your camera with a recommended SD card (be sure it's from a reputable seller and that the card is not counterfeit. 32GB cards are fine, work well, and will save you some money). https://gopro.com/help/articles/block/microSD-Card-Considerations#list2

Next, reset the camera https://gopro.com/help/articles/how_to/How-to-Reset-the-Camera-to-Default-Settings

Finally, perform a manual update followed by a format of the SD card in the camera.

BTW - when doing the manual update you can get the camera serial number in the preferences About menu on the camera. If the numbers don't work on the web site, try on the update for HERO (2018). If the number works for the HERO (2018) the seller hacked the camera and ripped you off.
