Same problem for me. Firmware is updated according to Capture. My card was sold to me by
BestBuy specifically for the camera, and is SanDisk Extreme 64Gb XC I PLUS,
where I put PLUS in caps because APPARENTLY THIS IS THE PROBLEM. The recommended
list only has the non-PLUS version.
At least I hope that is the problem, because if so it means that I have a camera which is
VERY FINICKY about its accessory, but can still be made to work. However, if the new
$149 card I just ordered from GP has the same shut-off issue, I will have to conclude that I've
made a multi-hundred dollar investment in a product that has promise but was not really ready to ship.
Here is a modest suggestion for a firmware update.
DUMP A TEXT FILE SHOWING WHEN AND WHY THE CAMERA CHANGES ITS STATE.
That way if it stops recording then there is a chance in heck of figuring out why without a lot of random guesswork.

Update, using the most expensive card sold by GoPro, it still cuts out after about 20-30 mins on higher settings.
I tested 2.7k, 48 fps, which was also cutting out with my prior card. However, dropping down to 30 fps, it seems to go indefinitely (at least an hour). It also doesn't get quite as hot, although it's still too hot to touch in certain places.
This is probably good enough for me but I wouldn't say it's really performing to spec.

Somewhat related issue, however mine is more consistent.;
My Hero 5 session will record up to 3 days of TimeLapse Video, however it keeps stopping the recording on the 3rd day, depsite another 3 days or more space being available onthe card.
GoPro support, before you ask; yes the card is on your compatible list and yes I have formatted it since the last time the issue creeped up.
I suspect mine might not be heat issue though due to how it consistently fails on day 3. Perhaps there is some internal / unwritten quota on the camera?
My next guess is that there is a conspiracy put into place by the GoPro developers to tank the GoPro line altogether by releasing faulty products

There aren't any limiters as far as I've ever heard. Not sure exactly what's causing the issue after three days though, but our team at https://gopro.com/help/ContactUs can dig into that with you.

Hi, did turning off voice commands fix the issue? I'm doing some tesing now, my GoPro Hero 5 keeps turning off on Timelapes and Videos. I find it difficult to understand how the GoPro could pick anything up that sounds like "GoPro turn off" sometimes its recording in an empty room.
Tested today filming a timelapes video with 4K / 60s / 25fps. 4.17 hours recording / 250 images / I'm left with a 10 second video.
When testing video i get recording times of anything from 15min upto about 2hr (depending on the battery)
As I had mentioned earlier, the problem with mine were the Voice Controls. Turn off voice and everything works. Whatever you're recording is getting a bad translation.
