GoPro Hero 5 Black wont charge/turn on

So I just got a GoPro Hero 5 Black and I put the battery in and it didn't turn on. So I connect it to my laptop to charge it with the GoPro charging cable and the red light turns on for about a second then turns back off. I've taken out the battery time after time but it won't turn on or charge. Anyone know how I can fix it?

Give these steps a try!

 

  1. Disconnect the camera from any external power source and remove SD card. Remove and reinsert battery.
  2. Press the Mode Button to see if the camera responds (look for LED illumination, beeps, or a response from the camera’s screens).
  3. If there's no response, attempt to reset camera by pressing and holding the Mode Button for 8-10 seconds. After releasing the button, leave the camera alone for ≈5 seconds and attempt to get a response from the camera by pressing the Mode Button.
  4. If still unable to get any sign of life from camera, connect to a 5V 2A wall charger (5V 1A minimum) using the GoPro USB Type-C cable, look for red LED illumination to indicate charging. NOTE: In a pinch, you can use a computer USB port, but we do not recommend using a multi-port USB hub when trying to charge the camera.
    1. If the red illumination LED does not appear, try using a secondary USB Type-C cable. 
  5. If/when red LEDs illuminate, allow camera to remain charging for a few minutes.
  6. Remove the camera from charging source and attempt to get a response from the camera by pressing the Mode Button.
  7. If provided with a response, allow camera to turn back off, insert the SD card and wait ≈5 seconds, then attempt to record a sample video.

Please help me. I'm desperate. I have a Gopro Hero 5 Black. It is dead. I followed all the instrucions that I have read here, also the instructions that you find on Youtube and also the instructions that you post here as a copy/paste about disconnecting the recharger and the 10 seconds thing with the mode buttom and the SD card removal, but it is completely dead after only one year, and only 6 or 7 uses. I would like that you help me to repair my camera. I like the Gopro cameras very much, but I don't want to find out that I gave 400 dollars to Gopro for a 6 times disposable camera, because I will not spend even one more cent to buy a new one, if I cannot get this one fixed.

That link shows only "Forums" also recommendations and a directory of Technical Support numbers worldwide, but the Dominican Republic (where I am) is not listed there. Which option of that link should I tap?

I have tried everything and it's simply dead. I even went to a store that sells GoPros Hero 5 Black and they kindly gave me the opportunity to use one of the original GoPro brand new batteries they sell, also an original brand new Gopro recharger they sell, and nothing happened. I followed all the steps that you described above and nothing happened. When I plug the camera to the recharger, without the battery it gets hot. Actually it did all the time since I first used it, it used to get really hot when recharging the battery and also when recording videos, but I just thought that it was a normal thing. Everything started with a problem with the touch screen, it was not working properly after 10 months of use. Then a couple of days later the touch screen had lines when the camera was on. But I plugged the camera to the recharger, I recharged the battery and the lines were gone, but the toch screen still didn't work and i just thought that I had to update the firmware. And then when I finally had time to do the firmware update, the camera was dead. My main concerns are: First: The camera is older than a year and I don't even know where the receipt is, but anyway the warranty expired????Second: A friend of mine bought the GoPro for me on Best Buy and brought it to me from the US, but I live in the Dominican Republic. Is there any authorized Technical Support office of GoPro here in the Dominican Republic or I simply lost my 400 dollars?. Please tell me what to do, I am really desperate. I want to use my camera and I cannot, it is completely useless now.
