GoPro Hero 5 Black - video screen does not work; manual update resulted in exclamation point

Please tell me what is left to do. I have updated my brand new GoPro Hero 5 Black via Quik. Then I tried to manually do it and it gives me an exclamation point and red blinking lights. I usually stop it after 20 minutes. When I plug back into Quik, it does not prompt me to update again. However, the video screen still does not work.  Also, it appears that it may have some touchscreen sensitivity as when I touch the back repeatedly, it will give me a wifi icon or other icons. However, the back is completely blank.

Same problem today - seems to be very common - but no fix given any where - does this mean it needs returning?
