Video stabilization on the Hero5 is not a hardware feature but a software trick.
So it requires real-time computing power, that's why it has limitations, and I don't think a firmware update could change that.
Or it would mean that they could've offered stabilization for higher resolutions or higher FPS from day one.

I would love some information as well. Image stabilization only works in 1080 not 4K. Thanks!

@fastwave3736 What information are you wanting as regards to image stabilization or EIS? Hero5 Black does support image stabilization up to 2.7k resolution 30fps rate. The reason it can not be done on the higher resolution is that the H5B GoPro does this electronically not optically. When it does this it crops the image by 10% to remove the shaking of the video. I am not completely sure why the higher frame rates are not achievable so I can't comment on that part.
