I'm dealing with the same kind of problem. The camera is on the latest update 1.55. The following video shows the camera turning it self on, when WiFi is active. After deactivating WiFi it turn on itself once more and after shutting it down again, it stays off. 

I really hope GoPro is going to sort this problem out soon and fixes this otherwise remarkable product.

If your camera is doing this, please do reach out to our Support Team to see if they can provide further assistance, and also so that we can get the issue recorded properly. In addition to that, do you happen to have Garmin software on your mobile device or near the camera? We have heard some reports that that software will cause the camera to power on.

I find this really hard to believe. I have a Garmin watch, do you think that's what's causing it...I also have a Samsung phone which has Garmin talking to my watch, maybe its that, or maybe its my Lenovo laptop that has Garmin mapping and sync software? Exactly which Garmin software? 

If your reports are correct, then that is a poor indictment of the software from GoPro, that it can be affected by other software (in this case funnily enough from their competitor!!) You would have thought that they would have tested for this?

I have found that Garmin Connect on my phone seems to influence the camera to turn on by "it self".

As others have noted the camera doesn't turn on when connections are off and I found that it also stays off if Bluetooth is disabled on my phone. I also started getting Bluetooth error messages from Garmin Connect. I therefore tried un-installing Garmin Connect and that seem to have solved the problem!

If I reinstall Garmin Connect the camera will turn on within 5-10 minutes.

Before we blame Gopro for this, then consider it could also be bad Bluetooth implementation from Garmin side (have no insight in Bluetooth protocols and not even 100% this is the cause).

Will be happy if any of you can replicate this behaviour. I will try it on our Ipad later.

I too have the Garmin Fenix.

The only way I got my camera to stay turned off was to de-activate the wifi.

If left off for long enough: re-activate camera wifi, switch camera off and the camera stays off and Garmin Fenix connected to phone with no issues so I can't replicate this Garmin/GoPro issue.

If wifi is active on camera, I agree that you can prevent the camera from re-start by turning phone's bluetooth off...but who wants that?

I have read and done absolutely everything which are suggested here many times.

All the wifi connections and voice control are turned off. I have updated software via Quik and Capture app and also manually. Even deleted all the Apps from my iPhone. I have reset the SD-card and have reset factory settings in the camera.

One thing is still causing problems - when I turn the camera off, the red light still keeps ON. After a while battery goes empty and sometimes the camera automatically turns itself on.

Repeating my post from up above, if a firmware update and the factory reset don't resolve the problem, please open up a support ticket HERE. It shouldn't be necessary to turn off connections or bluetooth on your phone. Opening a support case allows us to look at the problem more in depth. 

 

Please do continue to post here as well, especially if you have extra details such as the patterns some users saw with their Garmin software. Seeing more people post to this thread helps us to get an idea of how many users may be running into the problem, but opening a support case is also a critical step so that we can get exact numbers and details recorded.
