Still turns on whether connected to mains and charging or not and turned off - only fix has been to go into connectivity and reset connection - meaning I'll have to re-pair to phone but this is appallingly bad for a new GoPro. This is clearly not isolated and GoPro need to fix the problem and provide a reasonable workaround whilst they get it sorted. Reference to tapping "connect" are misleading as the option doesn't appear to be there - just a rest all connections.
Gopro support - you need to get this sorted or camera is faulty and will be returned for refund by masses !

Seems to turn itself back on after only a couple of minutes after turning it off.
Much like the other users, the battery seems to be drained extremely fast. After taking a 15 second video and a photo, the battery went down to 92% - after playing with the settings for a few minutes it dropped to 68% and with it turning on during the night while I was sleeping, it drained the remainder.
Not sure if it's been updated yet as I am unsure how to do so or check if it has already been updated?

Thanks for your responses on this. It sounds like there's not necessarily a clear situation in which this happens. For some people just resetting the connections did the trick, for others the update, and for some it sounds like you weren't able to find a fix yet.
Since firmware and wireless connections seem to be the biggest factors here, please always try the following steps and then post if you still run into the problem:
- Make sure your camera is updated. You can find the version in the "About this GoPro" section of the camera, and you can update it HERE.
- Reset wireless connections by selecting the option of the same name in the "Connect" section of the camera. You should be able to leave the wireless connection on without the camera turning itself back on, but if you find that after doing all these steps, that still seems to be the factor that makes the difference, please let me know.
- Select Factory Reset in the camera's Preferences menu.
*A slight note for battery life as well, make sure that you are charging the camera correctly and only are seeing a red light lit up on the camera (nothing on the front screen). Put the camera's battery through a full power cycle before seeing how well the battery holds up.

So.. I had the problem sorted itself out.. but no.. could do this all afternoon. Turn it off, it turns on... turn it off, it turns on.
Disable Connections and its fine, obviously. The issue would appear to be the persistant connection between the phone (App) and the GoPro itself, possibly the App polling the GoPro to confirm connectivity and this re-wakes the GoPro. Should be an easy fix for your Devs.
The comments about various fixes for different people (reset Connections for examle) are all talking to resolving the primary issue is the connectivity from the phone waking up the gopro. If you reset the connections, then there is no longer a paired relationship between the gopro and the phone, hence it does not wake up any more.... all are the same problem.

GoPro, here's a solution:
Have an option in the Connections menu:
On Power Off, Keep WiFi On (for those who would like to have it available to start up their camera remotely)
On Power Off. Switch WiFi Off (for all the rest of us)

Just tried your solution (confired that camera is updated, reset wireless connections, factory reset) but I'm still getting the same results. The camera turns on by itself every few minutes unless wireless is turned off.

So its been a few days (6 to be exact) and I have not used my new GP5 for anything but to turn on to check battery level....from 100% down to 93% (wifi off)..
So OK that's not too bad but if the battery is not in the camera, there's no power loss...so there's that.
Soooo...I'm sitting here, the camera's off and TADA...it magically turns on....remember I said the wifi was off...well it's still off! This actually happened earlier during testing but just once and I thought I was going bonkers and that maybe I had forgotten to switch wifi off, and then I fiddled and then I left it on, so it turned on by itself, just like every other time...so I ignored that....
BUT no not this time....after it started, I checked...no wifi icon on the screen, and still off in connection settings!!! So I wasn't imagining this earlier!
And then I read about Karma's recall, and now I'm kinda sad it's going this way for GP.......hope they can come up with a solution for this (wifi issues) and good luck with the Karma (altho' in its current form, I wouldn't get one cause it lacks a lot of features that have been available in earlier models of the competion but there's a separate forum for that so I'll leave that there)
