Not only the display on drains the battery: using the cam by night to take pictures in a wildlife environment, I have to cover the display to avoid it lights on every time I shot. Please add a "display always off" option asap. Thanks
not only would a "display always off" option be nice (almost required) but it would be nice if it didnt turn the display on every time it started/stopped recording or took a picture.

Just got my new Hero5 black and i would really love to keep it,
BUT i can't turn off the LCD display.
Really? Why? Who would come up with the idea not to include such an option? (which is available on older Hero models)
Please add this option and give us a firmware update as soon as possible.
Many thanks in advance

I have a feeling we'll get this option on gopro hero 6 along with 4k stabilisation...tipical marketing gopro strategy. they care only about profit, without giving a s**t for their customers based on the fact they are still the kings for the action cameras on the market. still... :(((((((

Turning off the back screen is not currently an option, but there is an option that might help out. You can set your screensaver for as little as 1 minute. When that minute is up, the back screen does go black.
That is not a solution to the doezens of comments. its not even acceptable. you need to read this thread. Every time the camera does something or a button is pressed the screen turns on and then its on for another min.

Even if a button isn't pressed, if the screen is touched - for example if the camera is in a pocket - the screen turns back on. I recently had my camera in my pocket, on, ready to shoot. I took it out of my pocket and it was red hot and the battery was flat due to the screen constantly turning itself on.
Didn't have this problem with the Hero 4 - why such a massive step backwards?

My gopro turn off the screen after upgrading to 1.55 software. never turn on again.... the touch screen Is working, but i couldn´t see nothing.
it was a software fail, i think this will be posible in advance. turn on and off screen.

Does anyone at gopro read these threads or give a **bleep** about their customers' experiences and opinions?
