GoPro HERO 5 bricked during update
[ New ]Hi,
i bought an used Gopro 5 black. It has 1.55 firmware. I made 2 short test video, then I downloaded Gopro Quik on my PC to retrieve the videos. Gopro Quik says that my Gopro does not have downloadable content. No photo. no video. ??????
Gopro Quik says that I have to update the firmware, but if I agree, it immediately say it can not update.
I downloaded the Gopro app on my Android phone (Galaxy s8), but the app does not "see" the Gopro.
On the Gopro site I found the instruction for "manual update". I input my serial number and then download my update package (v.2.60).
I extract the zip and put the UPDATE folder on the microsd card (supported made and model, I checked) removing all other file and folders.
The Gopro starts the update but after 2/3 minutes the front screen shows an exclamation mark alternating it with the "2/2" screen.
The red leds blink fast. Leaving it alone for 30 minutes does not change anything. I remove the battery and the microsd. The UPDATE folder was deleted from the microsd, like the update was succesful. But the camera is bricked, every time I turn on (with or without the microsd) it shows the same sceens.
I searched ALL this and other forums for this error, and followed all possible advice: reformat the microSD, charge the battery to full (it was at 90% on the first attempt)... etc.... nothing works!
When it put back the microsd and the battery in the camera, it shows again the exclamation mark and the 2/2 screen after 2 seconds. It does not restart the update, like the others say.
Thinking at the problems that this camera had from the beginning, when it was "working" I think it has some bad memory location or something like that... and when it try to write that location it fails...
what do you think ?
Some other advice ??? apart calling the support (that I will do monday)
Thanks
Sergio

Re: GoPro HERO 5 bricked during update
[ New ]Format full in a computer. format quick afterwards and format in the camera. then Load the Firmware manually on. Battery is above 50% then you have not a issue at all.
You interrupted the firmware after 30 minutes of being stuck. You had no choice to stop it that I understand clearly.
the firmware manually takes under ten minutes.
Gopro support , Do they repair firmware, Think not? They replace only. It would be nice to have a Camera company stand behind tehir product on brick firmware to simply reflash and send out, for those who caxn not do it right? They don't/
I am sure all worked well from the owner, and all was working well till firmware was loaded, and that, I am not sure will get repaired by GoPrp but replaced if all papers are in order so yes call support. I can load firmware a number of ways with out crashing so I am not sure what went wrong bad sector on firmware I guess

Re: GoPro HERO 5 bricked during update
[ New ]PROBLEM SOLVED.
After reading and applying tips for 3 days, finally I bought another MicroSD card.
The previous firmware update attempts were made with a Kingston SD HC UHS-I Class 10 / U3. This card works without problems in any device I own; and it formats perfectly in my PC.
The new card is a Sandisk Extreme SD HC UHS-I Class 10 / U3. Same specs as the Kingston, one works, the other not.
It is really incredible that Gopro hardware has this problem.

Re: GoPro HERO 5 bricked during update
[ New ]Support was not able to offer *ANY* advice. On this camera I do not have any "care" bundled, so my only choice was to call support by phone. After half an hour of (not so pleasant) waiting music, x 3 attempts during the day (morning, lunch, afternoon), I gave up. 1,5 hours thrown away.
