GoPro 7 black

Looking at buying a 7black and have a couple of questions if anyone can help please?

I’m looking to use it for sports feedback so would like to be able to quickly transfer footage I’ve just shot, to a screen for feedback for my athlete. Do I need an Apple TV/chrome cast/fire tv and is there a “best” version?

2 does anybody know of a way of playing “live” with a delay of say 1 minute? So the athlete performs the skill, then goes to the screen to watch it back?

Re: GoPro 7 black

I’m looking to use it for sports feedback so would like to be able to quickly transfer footage I’ve just shot, to a screen for feedback for my athlete.

It depends on how long you're filming for.  For instance if you film for 30 seconds and then immediatly stop so you can show your athletes the footage, then the transfer will be pretty quick.  If you're going to film for 30 minutes and then try to show a specific play, there's going to be issues.  The footage will probably divide itself into 7 minute segments (depending on the resolution and frame rate you're filming at), you're going to have to try to find the segment you want.  If you want it high quality, you're going to have to transfer the segment to your phone or tablet and that will take time.   If you're happy with a lower quality piece of footage, you can of course play it back directly from the camera as a low resolution video.

Do I need an Apple TV/chrome cast/fire tv and is there a “best” version?

It sounds like you want to play back the footage on a large TV maybe?  These named devices would only work if the device in question had some sort of media server capabilities for casting or streaming footage.  I don't think you're going to be able to achieve this using said devices.

If you were going to do this with a GoPro Hero 7, You would have to use a PC with a HDMI in capture card and using the HDMI out feature on the GoPro Hero 7.  You would feed the HDMI out from the camera to the HDMI in capture card.  Said capture card would also have to have some sort of media recording feature where you could "Pause" live TV (so it has to have the features offered by a DVR).  However this seems like an overly complicated setup when one could just record the action with a camera, stop recording once the action is complete and then just play back the last recorded file to display the action completed.

If you're looking to use a device to record the action and give pretty much immediate feedback using the footage captured.  You'd be better off buying a large tablet with a built in camera and just hitting record and then stopping once completed and then playing back the footage for said athlete to view.  You could also mirror the tablets screen on a larger TV using a casting device.

If you were looking to record an entire game/session and then putting together a presentation later for athletes improvement, then you could use a GoPro Hero 7 Black, use the highlight/tag feature while recording the sections you want improvement on.  Then editing a video together later using the highlights to make a presentation.  (so immediate feedback vs an end of week summary so to speak).

Re: GoPro 7 black

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer in such detail, I was hoping to use on a continuous “loop” Ie start the camera and leave it running for Say 20 mins.

I had thought I could start live stream to Facebook and then display the Facebook stream on the tv at a 1 minute delay??

The camera arrived this morning anyway so will see what we come up with!

Thanks again for your help!

Re: GoPro 7 black

Your welcome, I hope you manage to come up with a solution that works.

The GoPro Hero 7 will stream to facebook, and if you have a smart TV you may be able to access facebook on the TV to watch said stream (it depends on what features the smart TV offers).  There is a "Facebook Watch" app that will work on the following devices:

Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, NVidia Shield, Sony TV, Samsung Smart TV, Xbox One, or Oculus TV.

However to get a 1 minute delay, that would be something Facebook would need to address.  Good luck with your project!
