GoPRo Hero 4 Black Dying in Cool Weather

I've been using my GoPro Hero 4 Black since last season and in cold weather, was acting fine. Even though it had stated that the battery dies fast within weather 35 and lower, it would work almost the entire duration of the time I wanted it to. I kept my batteries in an interior pocket that would stay warm due to my body heat. I used it at Killington and Bolton Valley last year when temperatures were ranging from mid 20's to low 50's.
I went to Wachusett Mountain recently and it wasn't working for anything longer than 20 seconds, if that. I figured it must've been the cold since even the fog in my goggles was freezing up. No big deal.
However, I went to Killington this past weekend and had issues with the GoPro staying on. The weather was around the mid 40's, peaking at 49, and it still did not stay on longer than 30 seconds. Later that night when I got home, I turned on the GoPro and it was lasting longer than it did on the mountain.
Is this an issue with the camera becoming outdated or is GoPro pulling an apple and pushing out "performance" restrictions on newer updates? I updated my GoPro to the most recent firmware before taking the two trips this year, and have had issues since.

Hey @raffj,
It sounds like to me there may be more of a freezing issue with the camera than a battery issue. What SD Card are you using?
I would give these steps a try and see if they help!
