Go Pro Fusion - First Charge - LED light flashing? Is it charging?

[ New ]

Just got the Go Pro Fusion. It's LED is Flashing, and I can't turn it on. I am wondering if it is really charging. It's disappointing that the manual doesn't indicate better what the LED being ON means.....or what may be a common error. I have it connected to my computer.  Does the Go pro come with a completely drained battery?

Does anyone know if this is normal and it is in fact charging or do I need to do something to reset?

Please note I have the 2 SD cards inserted and battery pack.

Thanks,

Hey All,

I have a few suggestions that should get you up and running again:

  • Ensure you're using a compatible charging source. Here are our recommendations, in order of preference:
    1. A wall charger with a 5 volt, 2 amp (5V 2A) output. NOTE: The Supercharger is ideal and will charge your Fusion notably faster.
    2. A wall charger with a 5 volt, 1 amp (5V 1A) output.
    3. A computer USB port (not recommended for regular charging purposes).
  • If still unable to get the camera to charge with a solid red LED:
    1. Disconnect the camera from the charging cable.
    2. Remove battery; wait ≈5 seconds before proceeding.
    3. Reinsert the battery; wait ≈5 seconds before proceeding.
    4. Reconnect USB cable. The red LED should illuminate within a few minutes.
    5. Allow the camera to charge until the red LED turns off.

In the event that you're still unable to get the camera to charge (red LED illuminated), attempt this process once more. You should be good to go!

While I contacted Chat support, I ended up solving my own problem in reality through additional troubleshooting.  they couldn't really give me an answer as to why it happened, or why it was happening but, given his answers to some of my questions, I believe the battery comes extremely dead.  I unplugged the go pro, re-inserted the batteries and cards a few times and let sit for a few minutes while i worked with the chat support.  Finally, I decided (with no help from support) to try and power it on, not connected to power.  It turned on which worked, and had 15 percent battery.  Battery was also getting hot during this, but eventually stopped once i got the whole power thing working.

After this i reconnected, while powered on, and it showed a flashing USB/Battery screen. I let that sit a few minutes and disconneted - power increased by 1% ...charging! yay, let tech support know, and he was still clueless. He tried.

let charge all night and got to 100 percent.   Typically these kinds of batteries can be fussy the first few charges, and will charge slow.  Hoping this aint the normal expectations. Tonight on the other hand, i'm having difficulty powering off and it says it's in spec mode.  Grrr. Nothing in manual.

Same here. Got my Fusion today. Flashing while charging. Not a word about the possibility of flashing in the official instructions. The fact that the LCD comes on and off between the flashes is concerning as well. Sounds like a significant dip in quality control by the manufacturer... C’mon GoPro, you dropped the ball here!

Had the same issue today. My conclusion is the red charging light doesnt come on steady until its at 10%. Also, initial charge has a bug, but you can work around it.

Here's my scenario (that worked).

1. I charged initially for several hours/ Noticed weird red light flickering and then going dead when initially plugging in.  Camera unresponsive when trying to power on.

2. Disconnected the charging cable.

3. Disconnected and reconnected the battery

4. Powered on the camera (pressed the mode button for a few seconds). display finally showing something. battery incated 6% power.

5. Plugged in charging cable (while camera was still on). saw charge increasing by about 1% every couple of minutes or so.

6. Set up the app / connection, which worked great.

7. powered off camera. unplugged and replugged in the charging cable... same red light weirdness. decided to keep it plugged in to see what happens

8. after about 5-10 minutes of charging, red light indicator comes one and finally stays on

9. So, my guess is, the charging red light indicator doesnt come on until battery has at least a 10% charge.

The initial charge problems are probably due to the battery being so dead on arrival (in some cases) and the camera not being able to transition into a normal charging/operational state.

Good luck! Otherwise, im really impressed with this camera.

I used a wall charger with a 5 volt, 2 amp (5V 2A) output and that fixed the problem. Battery is happily charging solid red now.

Spot on! That's exactly what just happened to me and had to go through all the disconnection and connection, make it revise at 6%, plug it, let it go up to 15% and then when turned off the red light stayed on.

Now the waiting game for it to charge and go out to play with it for the first time! Yeew!

Re: Go Pro Fusion - First Charge - LED light flashing? Is it charging?

[ New ]

So I had a different experience, although the same initial behavior.  However, it did end up charging - here's how I did it:

Opened the Fusion last night, but didn't turn it on.  Plugged in right away, using a 2A charger.  Went to sleep, and this morning - the unit was warm (as though it had been on all night), but the flight was flashing.  Unplugged and then tried turning it on - no luck, no response.  So I wondered if it had been a failed charger, or possibly a failed battery insert - unloaded the battery, and reloaded it, then plugged in again to same charge.  Voila - it turns on!  Started going through the setup, and unplugged the charger.  While I was in the "turn GPS on" menu, a message of "battery empty" came up, and the camera powered down.

That's when I came downstairs to research this, and found this thread.  While waiting, I plugged it into a different charger, and turned it on.  From there - I was able to go through the entire setup menu, including getting it hooked up to my GoPro app successfully (and changing the name).  Once in the app, I saw the battery (in settings) showed 81% so I figured I'd turn it off and see if the red light would stay on this time.  It did!

So I agree with the assessment the battery came very discharged and the camera doesn't handle that very well (at least the charging circuitry doesn't do well).  It was concerning the camera had gotten so warm overnight, so I'd suggest anyone with this problem in the future do what was suggested - charge it for 15 minutes or so, in hopes of getting it to 10% battery, and then set it up and turn off so the charging circuitry can handle a low battery instead of a dead battery more successfully.

In the meantime - I hope GoPro can research these scenarios and make some bug fixes and firmware update for future users!
