Go Pro 6 bad night picture

Hi, I have go pro 6 from my brother. When I shoot a night and faced the light source, it made like a long line of the light. See the attachment. I dont know what its called. I already clean the lens from outside, but it still.. should I open the lens cover and clean the lens?

Thank you for your help

What you are getting is called Lens Flare https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lens_flare

Different cameras have different apertures and lenses so each gives a different result, but as a general rule, you don't shoot directly at light sources.

There isn't a whole lot you can do other than:
1) Yes, keep your lens clean (however, if it is already clean, cleaning the inside isn't going to fix this as a dirty lens isn't the issue)
2) Don't shoot directly at light sources. In fact, you should try to always shoot in the opposite direction so your subject is lit, but you don't have a glaring light facing the camera

If you absolutely need to shoot into the sun or at a bright light and you do not want lens flare, @fishycomics is correct, lower your EV. Another option is using ND filters. Since you are taking photos at night, you will also want to adjust your ISO and maybe even lock the shutter. These are all more advanced settings, so unless you are familiar with photography settings, just avoid shooting directly into light.

Also, try light metering the shot by pressing on the rear LCD until you get the small box.  Move it around until you get the results you're looking for.  Be sure to hit the check mark on the bottom right of the screen or your changes wont be saved.

Hi @rapidoasis03287,

May I know the settings you're using?

Did you turn on Protune or Auto?

Re: Go Pro 6 bad night picture

the Issue you see is hte  lighting If you do not face the lighting do you get a better shot?  If you  place on Protunes and starto adjust ISO  min to 400 and max 800, you may get a omproved shot. and then start to add EV-.05 to  lower the brightness  a tad. you get better   at chosingwhat will work.  you can keep cleaning thelens protector that is not going to correct the streaks  Protunes is the answer that the Rep here is generally telling you if he offered some additional setting info you can try them?  so try what he is asking. till you get it correct.
