GOPro session (4) suddently swithed to video mode while timelapse was running

I bought a GoPro Session yesterday.

After first steps to understand how that works. I setted up the GoPro to timelapse 1 pic every 60 seconds. And turned of the WIFI

Timelapse has ran for about 40 mins. Then the camera decided to take a video!

Should I return the camera? Or there is some update to apply?

You should definitely update the camera to the latest firmware. Performing a manual update with your computer is preferred. On the front page of Support select Update your camera. Then on the update page use the drop down menu on the top right where is says Select Your Camera. After selecting your camera it should show the correct picture on the left. Go to the bottom of the page and select, Update your camera manually. Download the Update.zip file to your computer and then extract the Update folder. Format your SD card and then put the Update (not Update.zip) on the SD card.

Also, be sure you are using one of these cards https://gopro.com/help/articles/Block/microSD-Card-Considerations

exactly step by step would explain your issue. Sounded like  you taken video.     short press on shutter is video. LONG press on shutter is timelapse (photo) is that what you did?????

Yes as I said it was on timelapse mode during 40 mins. Pictures has been taken every minutes.

Then I saw the red light blinking. A quick look at the camera. It was recording a video since 2 minutes.

Nobody acceded the camera. The wifi was off. It switched mode by itself.

Earlier I did another timelapse. Everything worked fine until battery died.

That's great. I will do the update.

Also today I bought one the scandisk extrem listed on the supported cards. Should be better than the scandisk from my smartphone. But we are always in hurry to get fun.

By the way in meantime I did some other timelapses with success.

Hoping the update will definitively solve those kind of issues. Thanks guys for helped me to find out a solution.

In fact the camera has been sold with the lastest firmware already. The v02.00 at date.

Nothing better can be done around :(

Re: GOPro session (4) suddently swithed to video mode while timelapse was running

Glad to hear you've had some successful shoots since the first one you posted. You should get good use from the recommended card. Even though you are on the latest firmware, I still suggest running the manual update with the new card. OTA updates can sometimes be incomplete, and I don't know what this is but whenever I use a new card it runs trouble free if I load the update on it before using it the first time. I had a SanDisk Extreme the I put directly into the camera and the camera would get hotter than normal and froze once on me. I formatted the card in the camera but was still having occasional issues. I reformatted the card in my computer, put the update on it (even though my camera was on the latest firmware) and then ran the update. Once it was done I formatted the card in the camera. I haven't had an issue since. I don't have any rational to explain it, but since it worked and can't hurt, I recommend it.
