We appreciate your interest with GoPro. For sure it would be exciting to document a surgery procedure so that you can watch it and share the experience. Since you are going to be mounting the camera on your head, it would be best to use the Head Strap (https://shop.gopro.com/EMEA/mounts/head-strap-plus-quickclip/ACHOM-001.html)
You also mentioned that the surgery will last 3 hours. A fully charged Hero 7 Black battery may last roughly around 45-90 minutes depending on the settings. You may want to check the article below so you can be guided what model best suits you:

I hope this helps.

Most my shots I hold my Hero 2 ft from me so it does get a goodshot I use 2.7K Linear. 4K is wide only
head strap like said but youwant something like this
do you think that is advisable they do make one that is wider like these
Or simply get a powerbank and tape the unit to teh side and run a cable to teh camera that you can use your imagination on will not be as heavy if asked.
good luck on the choice you make Look for a hero 5 Session be a lot better in weight and still smaller then the one posted
By the way gopro had a cap a lens riboon that never really hit it off used to be on the site a few years back

For anyone else who is interested, I find a 256gb microSD with a 12000mAh power bank tucked into my scrubs lasts me more than a day in theatre. Mounted on the head with minimal shake and great images when I do get them. Fantastic for learning and once I get it right, for marketing.
I hope to hear more soon. Cheers, Kent.
