Fusion - how to access files with Finder when connected to Mac via USB

When connected to my Mac the Fusion shows up in About This Mac -> System Report - > USB as a Hub with two SMSC devices. I assume one for each SD card but they are not visible in Finder. How can I access the files? I want to copy all them to a drive on my Mac.

Hey @dzeek,

So you can use Image Capture when your camera is connected to view your files on each SD card. Have a look at the screenshot below:

This mimics what you can do in Windows Explorer. Hope that helps!

Re: Fusion - how to access files with Finder when connected to Mac via USB

@dzeek - Fusion (and all other GoPro camera's in recent memory) utilize Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) as a menas of connecting to computers. This means that the camera will not be seen as a mass storage device (i.e., USB drive), but rather a read-only volume from the computer's point of view. This protects against unknowingly deleting footage from the card.

You can access the footage via the camera using Fusion Studio. If you want to save the files in a more traditional sense, use an SD adapter to remove Fusion from the importing equation--this will allow you to access the cards as mass media storage.

@edg -- Thx for the info. Does it work differently on Mac? In Windows two devices show up and I can access them and copy the files using Windows Explorer. So why not the same on Mac? I know I can use an SD card to USB adapter but I would rather not handle the SD cards if I can avoid it. I know the USB interface to the camera is much slower but, again, it avoide having to open the camera and handle the cards.

Brilliant!

Would this show GPR (raw) files too or just the JPEGS?

@satureyes Yes. GPR is shown in the screen shot.
